ECONOMIC INFORMATION

In order to meet the rising demand for information thousands of databases are available worldwide. Nearly all supply technical literature, economic information, patent references, and manufacturers addresses. Materials databases with numerical values are a relatively small part of these programs. Because the majority of these databases are from individual manufacturers of plastics, there is only limited comprehensive, neutral information on most materials in these software programs. 

A successful modem hazardous industrial waste treatment program for a particular industry will include not only traditional water pollution control but also air pollution control, noise control, soil conservation, site remediation, radiation protection, groundwater protection, hazardous waste management, solid waste disposal, and combined industrial-municipal waste treatment and management. In fact, it should be a holistic environmental control program. Another intention of this handbook series is to provide technical and economical information on the development of the most feasible total environmental control program that can benefit both industry and local municipalities. Frequently, the most economically feasible methodology is a combined industrial-municipal waste treatment. 

In making risk management decisions it is important to take into account nontechnical factors in addition to scientific and economic information. Recent crises in the food industry have indicated that consumers perceptions about risks are driven by factors that would not be considered in conventional risk assessments. Research has shown that factors such as whether sub-groups (particularly children) might be affected, whether the hazard is familiar, if there are effects on the environment or if risks and benefits are equitably shared can determine consumers reactions to an issue. 

Co-operative legislation In view of the increasing complexity of economic processes and technology, legislators have increasingly to rely on economic information in order to draw np the regnlative framework conditions in a practicable way. On the other hand, the economy needs state enforced mles in order to facilitate fair competition, while at the same time protecting both health and the envi-romnent.

The advent of NICE heralds a new era in which evidence about cost-effectiveness is formally required to help determine whether new interventions should be made available at public expense, ffowever, definitive yes/no decisions about market access have major implications for pharmaceutical companies. Economic information available at launch can only provide initial guidance about value for money. Further evidence on cost-effectiveness in real-world use will also be required. 

The failure of poor people to purchase risk information or risk-reduction services is not evidence that information and risk-reduction markets do not work well. Poor people do not consume certain items because they do not have sufficient income, not because markets do not work well. Economically informed policy analysis argues that the state should not intervene in the interactions of particular markets to ameliorate equity concerns. If any redistribution occurs, it should be at the level of the economy as a whole and not in any particular market.

This book includes a compendium of papers presented at a symposium entitled Coal Dilemma II and the discussions that followed between the authors and the participants. The objective of the symposium was to present problems and postulate solutions. The papers are the most current in coal conversion. Technical and economical information is presented in all the papers that appear. Probably the most important aspect of this book is the discussions that followed the presentations of the papers by the participants in the audience and the authors. These discussions will give the reader an insight to the complex nature of the problems that are faced by the United States.

Within the scope of clinical studies, valuable economic information on medical procedures can (and should) be obtained. Once an MA has been granted, simultaneous pricing and reimbursement applications must be sent to the Pricing Commission (Ministry of Economical Affairs) and to Rijksinstituut voor Ziekte-en invaliditeitsverzekering [RIZIV] (or INAMI in French), the office for disablement and sickness insurance]. The advice of the Transparency Commission must be included where reimbursable products are concerned. The pricing application contains economic information justifjnng the requested price whilst the application for reimbursement must contain scientific, and if available, pharmacoeconomic information supporting the therapeutic vedue of the product.
