Especially in an industrial environment conditional demand is an important concept. This is because orders usually allow for some delivery time. This delivery time is in many cases long enough to be taken into account in production scheduling. As the deadline for orders for a certain date of delivery comes closer one can compare the original forecast with the orders that were already received. It is intuitively clear that if many orders were already received this implies a somewhat increasing forecast with less uncertainty. System response time can be divided into two phases. The first is the detection time, that is the time from the actual detection of the fire to the time that the signal is amplified and fires the primer in the water control valve or opens the solenoid valve. It is possible to check the calibration of a pipet, flask, or buret. The process involves weighing with a calibrated analytical balance. The volume of water (temperature noted) delivered or contained by the glassware is weighed. Then the analyst converts this weight to volume (using the density of water at the temperature noted), corrects the result to 20°C (the usual temperature of the factory calibration), and compares it to the factory calibration. If the difference is not tolerable, the piece of glassware is either not used for accurate work or a correction factor is applied.
