Decoding logic

Figure 7.6 shows the schematic of the complete circuit schematic that provides this logic function. The binary counter circuit (Fig. 7.1) provides the input signals, and the AND gates provide the decoder logic. The clock signal is 100 KHz at 50% duty cycle. [Pg.199]

The information that all case item values are mutually exclusive needs to be passed to the synthesis tool. This is done by using a synthesis directive called parallel case. When such a directive is attached to a case statement, a synthesis tool interprets the case statement as if all case items are mutually exclusive. Since the synthesis directive appears as a comment in the Verilog HDL model, it has no effect on the language semantics of the model. This implies that no priority logic is synthesized for the case statement control instead decoding logic is used. Here is the case statement with the parallel case directive. [Pg.56]

With the synthesis directive, decoding logic is synthesized for the branching logic as shown in Figure 2-37. Without the synthesis directive, priority logic is synthesized as shown in Figure 2-36. [Pg.58]

Logic synthesis of otie dimensional and multi-dimensional arrays in VHDL or Verilog results in x times y xQgvsX vs for an array with x and y dimensions. Further, to write to an element of the array requires decoding logic and to read an element from the array... [Pg.284]

Arrays can be scheduled and allocated to either of memories, register files or registers with decoding logic. In addition, the scheduling is optimized in accordance with the implementation of arrays. [Pg.149]

The second vitally important skill you must master for sentence completion questions is the ability to identify key words and phrases—words that most help you decode the sentence. Think of them as clues to a mystery. Among the most useful of these are the words that enable you to identify the logical relationship between the complete unit(s) of the sentence and the incomplete unit(s). As in the preceding example, sometimes you have to complete one portion of a two-blank sentence before you can work on the logical relationship of another unit. There are three types of logical relationships commonly expressed in sentence completion questions contrast, comparison, and cause and effect relationships. These three relationships will help you decipher the sentence completion questions. [Pg.104]

The CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU) decodes and executes the instructions of a computer program. It has circuits that can perform arithmetic and logical operations, e.g., add two numbers or compare them for equality. [Pg.315]

What if the designer knows that all case item values are mutually exclusive In such a case, a decoder can be synthesized for a case statement control (the case expression is checked for all possible values of the case item values in parallel) instead of the priority logic (which could potentially be nested deep depending on the number of branches in the case statement). [Pg.56]

Chapter 3 describes how Verilog HDL constructs are collectively used to model hardware elements. While Chapter 2 describes the mapping of Verilog HDL to logic gates, this chapter describes the opposite scenario, which is, how to model a hardware element in Verilog HDL for synthesis. Elaborate examples are provided for many common hardware elements, such as multiplexers, counters, decoders and arithmetic-logic-units. [Pg.230]

Crystal deconstruction is a logical process that allows one to "decode the crystal structure organization of a given molecular or ionic crystal by sifting out those interactions, that are relevant to supramolecular recognition and to crystal cohesion. ... [Pg.349]

From a solution quality perspective, it is typically advantageous to construct windows of the largest size that can be efficiently processed by a given optimization (e.g., see Table 8.1). In such cases, therefore, it is advantageous for windows to be of similar size. However, if efficiency concerns dictate that windows cannot overlap, some windows may have to be smaller. Also, some windows may represent well-formed clusters of logic (e.g., multipliers or decoders) that are only loosely connected to the remaining circuit. Such windows can also be smaller than maximal reasonable size. [Pg.129]

Arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) Primarily it performs the arithmetic and logical operations. It is tegulated by an instmction decoder. [Pg.987]

Given the number of information supplied by an MSDS, it may be useful to define a strategy to guide the search for relevant information. Decoding will be more logical and so more efficient (Fig. 5.9). [Pg.206]
