Cycle audits

A few organisations undertake pedestrian audits of their designs. In a similar way to a cycle audit the objective is to make sure the needs of pedestrians have been adequately considered in the scheme design.

The entire quality system shall be assessed at a minimum of once every three years. The audit plan for a supplier has to cover all requirements, all sites, all locations, all operations, all functions, all customers, all processes, all procedures at least once in a three-year cycle, unless it is an upgrade certification (see clause 4.6). Hence the sample of operations taken on each audit has to cover at least Veth of the whole. 

It is permissible for each surveillance audit to re-examine part of the system so that the equivalent of a total assessment is completed within each three-year cycle. 

This requirement also implies that a repeat certification audit does not have to be performed once every three years if it can be demonstrated that the whole system has been audited within the three-year cycle. 

Part of the evidence required is the result of at least one complete internal audit and management review cycle. 

For consistency at least one auditor of the initial audit team should participate in all visits of a three-year cycle. By using the word should, the requirement is rendered non-mandatory and hence acknowledges that people may leave CBs. 

Procedures will contain many provisions, not all of which may be susceptible to verification at the time of the audit. This may be due either to time constraints or to work for which the provisions apply not being scheduled. It is therefore necessary to record which aspects have or have not been audited and engineer the program so that over a one to three year cycle all procedures and all requirements are audited in all areas at least once.

These packages are developed to meet specific needs of the user. Full life cycle validation is required and supplier audits are usually appropriate. 

The software life cycle activities extend until retirement of the software. However, in a manner of speaking, life cycle activities extend even beyond retirement since the data must be able to be reconstructed at any time during the life of the product, i.e., the archived record must always be accessible and readable even if the software is no longer commercially available or typically employed in the laboratory. Additional software validation includes implementation of the code and integration and performance testing. There also must be system security, change control procedures, audit trails, calibration, preventative maintenance, and quality assurance. 

The project will progress in stages, beginning with a waste audit carried out by an audit team. The audit team consists of a waste audit expert, a sector specialist, a financial expert, an economist/ marketing expert, and an expert in product life-cycle assessments. The audit team also supports the project in its different stages.

Category 4—Configurable Software Packages These software packages can be conhgured according to user requirements. A supplier audit is usually required to conhrm software has been developed according to a documented quality system. Validation should ensure software meets URS requirements. Full life cycle vahdation is needed. 

In practice, the frequency of fire prevention audits ranges from annually to every third year. Longer audit cycles are possible however the longer the audit cycle, the more intense and independent the audit process should be. 

The ISO has also produced a set of quality standards specifically for environmental management. This is the ISO 14000 series. The areas addressed by ISO 14000 are Environmental Management Systems, Environmental Performance Evaluations, Environmental Auditing, Life Cycle Assessment, and Environmental Labeling.

The QMS models require periodic audits but do not specify audit frequency. Audit frequency must be determined based on the risk associated with the matters to be audited and other factors including results of previous audits and other quality data. Periodic audits should be conducted over the entire product life cycle and follow-up audits conducted as appropriate to verify that previously identified quality problems have been corrected in accordance with applicable quality system and regulatory requirements.
