Stage concept

Two distinct and simple business strategies for manufacturing household furniture may be described as the provision of either low-cost, short lifespan, or expensive, long lifespan products. The decision on which strategy to take is made at the conception stage of the business and may depend upon existing supply chain links, market opportunities or available workforce skill set for example. It is unlikely that such a strategic decision would ever be made...

The immobilization of nonchiral organotin hydrides has been addressed in a number of works. Various solid supports (e.g., silica, alumina, and polystyrene) and different ways to covalently bind organotin hydrides have been used.32 Chirogen has developed immobilized menthyltin hydrides attached to silica and polystyrene supports, as shown in Figure 27.5. Both systems have been developed to the proof-of-concept stage. 

In the concept stages of a project, when details of the design are not known, emphasis should be put on the several accidental scenarios with a potential of impacting the main safety functions.

The full potential of amperometric biosensors has not yet been tapped, especially with respect to the versatile and broad range of applications for which biosensors can be used. Many contributions to the field of biosensors and biofuel cells still are at the proof-of-concept stage. The story reported that engines were being perfected in secret in London that would enable aeroplanes to smash the distance record make long flights in the stratosphere and fly non-stop around the world without refuelling. The project never went beyond the concept stage, however. Four decades later, Erren recalled that the prototype plane, a Rolls-Royce-powered De Havilland, was ready to go, but that the idea fell by the wayside because of disputes as to whether the attempt would be made from Britain or from Germany. 

The reaction engineering (see Section 8.2.1) is advanced insofar that many alternative process concepts [lie, 15d] were tested during the development phase however, only a few were pursued further in the concept stage up to the pilot plant reactor. There remained the principle of the biphasic Ruhrchemie/Rhone-Poulenc oxo process which was developed in long-term tests and protected by a matched patent strategy, as described in Section 6.1.3. 

Define the concepts stage, ideal stage, and cascade. 

Safety considerations permeate all business decision-making, from the concept stage for the design and development of new products, processes, and procedures, through to the disposal of the products made and the facilities in which the products are made. 

To serve as a reference, an example of a pohcy/procedure statement on safety in the design process follows. Its intent is to announce that hazards are to be addressed during early design concept stages, and as an integral part of a concurrent engineering program. 

To meet this objective, it is necessary for personnel having design responsibilities to consider hazards during the early concept stages when developing new products, manufacturing processes, technology, and facilities that may impact on occupational safety and health and on the environment. 

The concept stage has four steps (1) define the problem, (2) brainstorm, (3) research and generate ideas, and (4) identify criteria and specify constraints.
