Extenders activity

Encapsulated fonofos, a soil insecticide, was developed to coat seeds before they were planted (72). Encapsulation reduces oral toxicity 100-fold and dermal toxicity 10-fold while extending activity of the fonofos. Other encapsulated pesticides available include permethrin and parathion (69). Significantly, all commercial encapsulated pesticides are prepared by interfacial polymeri2ation. [Pg.325]

Class D enzymes (Mr of about 27,000) exhibit a high activity versus isoxazolyl penicillins, such as oxacillin and are referred to as the OXA-family. Surprisingly, the amino group of the SXXK lysine residues is carboxylated in the most active forms of the enzymes. Penicillins are generally better substrates than cephalosporins but mutations have been found which confer extended activity spectra to these enzymes. [Pg.682]

Under the high-rate conditions, the fluid remains approximately 2 hours in the aeration basin, and the BOD of feed is reduced between 50 and 70%. When maximum conversion is desired, over 95% of the BOD can be removed. This is termed an extended activated sludge process, and the average residence time is at least 18 hours. The conventional conditions are a compromise, with 90% of the BOD being removed and the fluid being detained around 5 hours.34 Table 16-3 gives the design information for these systems. [Pg.448]

Following an idea of Zhabotinsky [4] that chemical oscillating systems could expediently be treated as a black box and that the relevant mathematical semi-phenomenological model has to focus on the basic reactions only neglecting those less important, Vasiliev, Romanovsky and Yakhno [5] suggested a concept of the basic model. These simplified models of an extended active medium could be obtained either by a reduction of pre-existing... [Pg.468]

Small substrates may bind at alternative sites along the extended active site of lysozyme, avoiding the cleavage site, which has a lower affinity. Not only was the effect of these excipients found to extend activity by up to orders of magnitude but the effect of the two excipient groups was found to be additive, affording up to complete protection against lyophilization-induced inactivation when representatives of the two are present together. [Pg.352]

These monomers have been copolymerized with N-vinylpyrrolidone. Further polymers have also been obtained by reaction of the free drugs with copolymers from maleic anhydride. These polymeric drugs besides an extended activity, show the same or a decreased activity as the low molecular drug. [Pg.41]

Finally, two other polymers may be mentioned in this chapter which are formed by poly condensation of known active substances. A polymeric derivative of fluoro-uracil with the following formula 36, synthesized by Schmahl and his co-workers (104), showed an improved and extended activity in comparison with the low molecular substance, whereas no activity has been observed by Goodman and his coworkers (105) for a peptide-like polymer of sarcolysin. [Pg.45]

Extended-activity spectrum The amino-penicillin amoxicillin is active against many Gram-negative organisms, e.g., colibacteria or Salmonella typhi. It can be protected from destruction by penicillinase by combination with inhibitors of penicillinase (clavulanic acid, sulbactam, tazobactam). [Pg.272]

The crucial approximation made above is the use of an average matrix element as in 5-35. If the two matrix elements 5-31 are not equal to a good approximation, the method will not work well. This is often a matter of choosing the active space. When the same set of orbitals is used for a number of electronic states it is vital that the active space is large enough to cover the differences that may occur between the electronic structures of the different states. Merchan and Serrano-Andres have analyzed this situation for the case of a conical intersection and shown that more extended active spaces are needed [52],... [Pg.148]

Galactose oxidase hinds a single copper ion within Domain 11 on the axis of the wheel. The active site (Fig. 5) is unhke any other biological copper complex, an appropriate distinction for this remarkable enzyme. To explore the site in more detail, the protein environment of the mononuclear copper center may be separated into (A) direcdy coordinated metal hgands (hrst shell, inner sphere interactions) and (B) the extended active site environment (the second shell or outer coordination sphere). [Pg.11]

Kinetic experiments demonstrate that the extended active site cleft of pepsins (Tang et al, 1978) accommodates at least seven amino acids and that increasing chain length from two to six residues has a major effect on kcatvalues and not on Km(Allen et al., 1990). Energies of activation have been estimated to be at the range of 7-9 kcal/mol for good substrates and 13-14 for lesser ones, in a series of blocked peptides where the lysine-nitrophenylalanine peptide bond is cleaved. [Pg.319]

The interaction between microorganisms and stone minerals demonstrates metabolic diversity and versatility, combined with remarkable tolerance to extreme environmental conditions. Biocides can be used to eliminate some microbes but they should have extended activity and a wide spectrum of action. They should be checked for detrimental effects on the stone, either through colour change or internal crystallisation. The use of microorganisms... [Pg.238]

Length of peptide-type backbone. Aminopeptidase M11 inhibitory activity is enhanced markedly by addition of a phenylalanine residue to the chain (see Figure 6.3E). This indicates that aminopeptidase Mil contains an extended active site which favours the binding of a tripeptide or possibly a longer peptide. [Pg.340]
