Record archiving

Archiv, n. record office pi. records, archives (often used in names of periodicals), -tinte, /. record ink. 

Note that good laboratory practice (glp) should not be confused with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). The latter is the name given to a set of principles governing the organizational process and the condition under which non-clinical health and environmental safety studies are planned, performed, monitored, recorded, archived and reported, and was put forward initially by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) (see Chapters 2 and 9). 

Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is a quaiity system concerned with the organizationsi process and the conditions under which a study is pianned, performed, monitored, recorded, archived and reported. 

Operational plans are in place and viable, and include data record archives, maintenance procedures, and contingency plans. 

Documents that cannot easily fit into the validation file or may be required on a day-to-day basis (e.g., supplier system manuals, calibration schedule, and records) may be filed elsewhere, and these should be identified on the document schedule stating where they are located and identifying who is responsible for them. All documentation provided by the supplier must be suitably marked to easily identify its location in the validation file. It is acceptable to have the system development records archived by the supplier. If the pharmaceutical manufacturer requires the supplier to store and maintain the documents there needs to be a formal agreement on the retention period.

For systems deemed to contain electronic records, provision must be made for ensuring that all such records archived remain secure and can be retrieved for the required record retention period. Table 27.5 lists some options that could be considered. 

In deciphering the records archived in speleothems, there is the challenge of ascertaining the meaning of the record itself - what (if any) climatic parameters correlate with the records. In addition to the determination of the absolute age of the individual records, there is also the question of the time resolution of the records. The various records that have been extracted from caves and their deposits fall into three broad categories with respect to time resolution.
