The purpose of pharmacy administration course work is to teach pharmacy students how to design and manage medication use systems that produce optimal results for patients. In pharmacy administration courses, students learn how to conduct medication use evaluations that measure patient outcomes. They are taught how to communicate effectively with patients and with other health care providers. Pharmacy administration courses also teach ethical and legal responsibilities to monitor drug therapy and to protect patients from problems with drug therapy.

There are many ways of expressing the relative amounts of solute(s) and solvent in a solution. The terms saturated, unsaturated, and supersaturated give a qualitative measure, as do the terms dilute and concentrated. The term dilute refers to a solution that has a relatively small amount of solute in comparison to the amount of solvent. Concentrated, on the other hand, refers to a solution that has a relatively large amount of solute in comparison to the solvent. However, these terms are very subjective. Several concentration units are useful, including percentage, molarity, and molality.

With the Code of Ethics suggesting that pharmacists not discuss drug therapies with their patients, the profession lost sight of the need for pharmacists to communicate effectively with patients and other health care professionals. As the number of hospital and chain pharmacies expanded, resulting in pharmacists being more likely to be employees rather than business owners, the importance of practice management skills was not stressed in schools of pharmacy. Ironically, studies such as the Dichter Report commissioned by the APhA revealed that consumers regarded pharmacists more as merchants than as health care professionals (Maine and Penna, 1996). 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each duty satisfactorily and be able to use various computer systems proficiently. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English (orally and in writing).
