Bergamot oil, Italian is obtained by pressing peels from the unripe fruits of Citrus aurantium L. subsp. bergamia (Risso et Poit.) Engl. (Rutaceae). It is a green to greenish-yellow liquid, which sometimes contains a deposit. The oil has a pleasant, fresh, sweet, fruity odor. [Pg.186]

BERGAMOT OIL. An essential oil, Brownish-yellow to green liquid, agreeable odor, bitter taste, produced from the nnd of the fruit of Citrus aurantium or C. bergamia, relatives of the orange and lemon, The small trees are cultivated in southern Europe. Due to its pleasant odor, (-)-linalyl acetate is used as ingredient in perfumes and cosmetic products. It is a major compound in the essential oils of petitgrain (Citrus aurantium spp. auran-tiurri), Citrus bergamia and L. angustifolia (Bornscheuer et al., 2014 O Neil, 2006).
