Chapter 8 Global Supply Chain Management

supplier criteria and vendor management under global sourcing are presented. Finally multi-objective optimization models for designing global supply chains are discussed and illustrated with actual case studies. [Pg.22]

Every chapter ends with a Summary and Further Readings section. This provides additional references that extend the topics discussed in the chapter. It also includes references to other related topics, including other models and methods not discussed in this textbook. [Pg.22]

All chapters have a set of Exercises which are divided into two parts. First is a set of word questions requiring short responses. They test the reader s basic understanding of the concepts present in the chapter. These are followed by a set of numerical problems to apply the models and methods presented in that chapter. [Pg.22]

In this chapter, we have defined the term supply chain engineering and discussed the types of decisions that are made in managing supply chains. We also demonstrated the close relationship between certain supply chain performance metrics and a company s financial performance. Finally, the importance of supply chain management was illustrated in our discussion of the Supply Chain Top 25 (Hofman et al., 2011) and their essential characteristics. An overview of the topics covered in Chapters 2 through 8 was also presented. [Pg.22]

The article by Min and Zhou (2002) provides an excellent review of supply chain modeling research done prior to 2002. They identify the key challenges and opportunities in supply chain modeling. In addition, they emphasize the importance of integrated supply chain models and suggest areas for further research. [Pg.22]

An example of a global Supply Chain Management process has been included in the discussion of NS, Inc. later in this chapter. [Pg.81]

P. R. Kleindorfer and L. N. Van Wassenhove, 2004, Managing Risk in Global Supply Chains, In H. Gatigon and J. Kimberly (eds.). The Allianee on Globalization, Cambridge University Press, Chapter 12. [Pg.42]

Chapter 7 describes international situations and how to effectively build international relationships. Culture is a very important aspect of international relationships that must be considered in supplier relationships. The issues of globalization and international relationships will be discussed, as well as the impact that different cultures and companies can have on supply chain management. [Pg.196]

This chapter presents important problems in supply chain risk management that extend beyond the traditional treatment of supply chain management commonly found in textbooks. We discuss in detail the vulnerability, driven by globalization, of supply chains around the world to a disruptive event in one part of a single country. This chapter presents models and methods to answer the following queshons ... [Pg.21]

This chapter presented a disruption risk assessment method for managing the supply disruptions in a global supply chain. The assessment can help practitioners to quantify risks in their supply chains based on hazards, vulnerability, and risk management practices. The disruption risk scores of suppliers facilities and transportation links can lead a company to proactively manage its suppliers. They then can use the disruption risk matrix to visualize the relative risk of all idenfified hazards. We presented a case study of a global distribution company to illustrate the application of this framework in assessing disruption risks for facilities and transportation links. This framework can be used to develop a company disruption risk profile, which in turn can be used to identify the critical network components that are prone to disruptions and to prioritize the risk mitigation activities. [Pg.221]

Supplier management is the aspect of supply chain management that seeks to organise the soirrcing of materials and components from a suitable set of suppliers. The emphasis in this area is on the suitable set of suppliers. The automotive case study above explains some of the considerations in this process, as does the Global Lighting case in Chapter 2 (Case study 2.6). [Pg.276]

Chapter 9 The Role of Product Design in Global Supply Chain Risk Management... [Pg.137]

C. Corbett (Global Diffusion of ISO 9000 Certification Through Supply Chains) looked at the contribution of globalized supply chain to the diffusion of ISO 9000 certification, using data from a global survey. He concluded that the diffusion of ISO 9000 started primarily in Europe, and spread to other countries as the European firms pressured their suppliers to seek ISO 9000 certification. This chapter highlighted the role of supply chain on the diffusion of management practices in the industry. [Pg.291]

This chapter proposes ways to take globalization into account in managing supply chains. Specific objectives include the following ... [Pg.96]
