Centralized computerized systems

Firm 1 - Very Large. Very complex centralized computerized system including medical records, industrial hygiene, environmental effects,... [Pg.130]

In some systems, central computerized control and monitoring equipment. [Pg.169]

Firm 2 - Large. Centralized corporate-wide computerized system for workers, workplace and employees. [Pg.130]

Modern glove boxes include central computerized units that monitor pressure and level of contaminants and automatically initiates regeneration of the contaminant removal system when needed. [Pg.310]

Cysticercosis is caused by the larval stage of the pork tapeworm Tenia solium. Neurocysticercosis is the most severe and common clinical manifestation in humans and probably the most frequent parasitic infection of the central nervous system. T. solium is endemic in Latin America, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. However, with the advent of computerized neuroradiology and improved serological tests, neurocysticercosis is increasingly being diagnosed throughout the world. [Pg.425]

Mr. Wichmann has about 5 years experience focusing on quality issues in the environment of software development and computerized systems. At SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany, Mr. Wichmann was in charge of the administration of the QMS for development and services as well as for the coordination of its continuous revision and improvement before he was appointed quality manager for the PI development group. Since July 1998, Mr. Wichmann has headed the central quality management of SAP development. [Pg.493]

The CALCAP (27) is used to measure simple and choice reaction time and speed of information processing. This test has proven to be sensitive in detecting central nervous system (CNS) changes in studies of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) dementia. This computerized test consists of four individual tests (one test of simple visual reaction time and three tests of choice reaction time) and takes only 10 min to administer. [Pg.257]

There are a surprising number of computer-con-trolled systems in homes today, all acting independently to control heating, cooling, security, lighting, appliances, entertainment equipment and even coffee makers. Houses of the future will integrate all of these computerized functions into centralized home automation systems that will help optimize energy... [Pg.209]

The character and the degree of automation in chemical control may have been covered in the above treatment of semi-automatic or completely automatic, and of discontinuous or continuous analysis, but something more should be said about the means by which automation proper has been performed in recent times. Whereas in the past automated analysis involved the use of merely, mechanical robots, to-day s automation is preferably based on computerization in a way which can best be explained with a few specific examples. Adjustment knobs have been increasingly replaced with push-buttons that activate an enclosed fully dedicated microcomputer or microprocessor in line with the measuring instrument the term microcomputer is applicable if, apart from the microprocessor as the central processing unit (CPU), it contains additional, albeit limited, memory (e.g., 4K), control logics and input and output lines, by means of which it can act as satellite of a larger computer system (e.g., in laboratory computerization) if not enclosed, the microcomputer is called on-line. [Pg.327]

Source characterization results are not located in a centralized facility which is constantly updated. The Environmental Protection Agency has established the Environmental Assessment Data System (EADS) (31) which contains chemical compositions of particulate matter emissions tests. This existing computerized structure can provide the centralized location for receptor model source characterization information. Procedures such as those described for ambient data in the previous section need to be developed in order to allow receptor model users access to this data base over telephone lines. The data required of receptor model source tests should be incorporated into the EADS, and source characterization results should report this information in an EADS compatible format. [Pg.101]

Central lo sonic pest inanagemeiil systems is a computerized simulator which, based upon the analysis of hundreds of past observations and experiments, can accept current weather information, fur example, and read out the effects ol the weather parameters. It thus provides directions for whatever pest control actions should or should not be taken at any given lime. In essence, the simulator hikes the place of numerous observers in the field and enables an inlormation center to pass along directives- in real time. A nunther ol factors in addition to weather information, of course, can he input into the sy stem. Needless to say. if such a network were established, all manner of other information pertaining to the crop ecosystem could he handled m addition to pest management data. [Pg.850]

Wind Power Plant A group of wind turbines interconnected to a common utility system through a system of transformers, distribution lines and (usually) one substation. Operation, control and maintenance functions are often centralized through a network of computerized monitoring systems, supplemented by visual inspection. This is a term commonly used in the United States. In Europe, it is called a generating station. [Pg.29]

Figure 19.1 shows an example of a complex computer system that includes computerized analytical instruments for the collection and evaluation of data, servers for data review and centralized archiving, and a laboratory management system. [Pg.450]

In order to apply approaches and criteria of the kind described above, it is essential to have ready access to all the relevant information. This means that it is necessary to develop centralized data banks integrating data from environmental field studies with infcsmation from the literature in readily retrievable form to facilitate its use. It is also necessary to develop state and local registries of morbid events, especially in relation to sentinel diseases which are relatively rare and may be associated with exposure to potentially toxic chemicals in the environment. In addition, it is necessary to develop exposure-specific and site-specific registries of exposed populations and suitable control populations with provision for short-term monitoring and long-term follow up. This should be part of the general development of computerized data systems of births, deaths and... [Pg.480]

Both types of work are undergoing considerable change. In postindustrial societies, assembly work in its classical sense (Taylor, 1923) is being modified in order to allow more flexibility in production systems and more individual control and responsibility (e.g.. Wall Martin, 1987). Supervisory monitoring is being transformed by computerized control systems that tend to diminish requirements for activity by the operator and confine him or her to centralized control rooms at a distance from the actual production process. [Pg.339]

Such computerized equipment can be integrated in laboratory and information management systems, which send evaluated data and facts to a central processing unit, where they are combined with information from other examinations [33,34]. [Pg.82]
