Wind energy Wind turbines capture the energy from the wind to produce electricity. They have been developed for various purposes, from large groups of grid-connected wind turbines, wind farms, both onshore and offshore, to very small autonomous turbines used for battery charging or in combined wind-diesel projects for off-grid application.

Constant-Speed Wind Turbines - Wind turbines that operate at a constant rotor revolutions per minute (RPM) and are optimized for energy capture at a given rotor diameter at a particular speed in the wind power curve. 

Turbines are classified according to their principle of operation and the type of fluid that turns them. All turbines respond to impulse or reaction movement. The four main types of turbines are steam turbines, gas turbines, wind turbines, and water turbines. The primary function of a turbine is to convert steam, gas, wind, or water energy into mechanical energy that can be used to drive rotating equipment.
