Home automation

There are a surprising number of computer-con-trolled systems in homes today, all acting independently to control heating, cooling, security, lighting, appliances, entertainment equipment and even coffee makers. Houses of the future will integrate all of these computerized functions into centralized home automation systems that will help optimize energy... 

One likely trend will be the integration of several functional features in the house, such as integrated control of illumination, safety, heating and ventilation, domestic appliances and audio and video function. In this new market, manufacturers as well as consumers, have to define their aims. By lowering costs and targeting potential customers directly, manufacturers are able to increase their market share considerably. A market report of Frost Sullivan estimates the volume of the European market for home automation with 432.1 million in 2007 (see Table 6.8). 

The Smart home approach is the future trend for homes with a lot of home automation and smart concept applications. In all of these, the possibility to create a home and environment that is aware of its occupants and activities to provide services to enhance the quality of life or to help residents to maintain independence as they age. Sun, wind, and elements to make windows power-generation sources rather than energy losers will occur in the future. Designers, planners, and window industry visionaries foresee windows as dynamic, integrated, controllable appliances in the walls. Windows of the future may very well be automated home systems that serve many purposes. The technologies listed below are only a few in a list of hundreds that may improve efficiency, performance, and visibility.

Another common failure is neglecting to instruct the patient to measure BP at home in order to use this to guide therapy. Measuring BP at home allows the practitioner to make decisions based on many more samples of BP rather than relying on readings taken every few months in the office. This also leads to overdiagnosis and overtreatment in those who have office hypertension but normal BP at home. However, many office and home devices now utilize the oscillometric technique, which leads to serious inaccuracies in at least 50% of patients. When BP is measured with an automated device, office staff should document the accuracy of each device on each patient, as all automated devices make serious systematic errors in at least 50% of patients, >5 mmHg (2).
