The experiment was repeated using 33% acrylic fiber as a carrier instead of cotton. The carding performance and composition and proportion of waste removed was the same as observed with the cotton blend. In all cases the material processed without incident in the needle-punch machine, and the resultant needled nonwovens had a satisfactory appearance, the double density products having the best. The main problem with this process was the high proportion of waste fiber generated at carding. [Pg.153]

The second part of the requirement deals with inspection and test records, which are also covered in clause 4.10.5. The difference between these requirements is that clause 4.10.1 requires you to document the records to be established (in other words define ) in the quality plan or procedures and clause 4.10.5 requires you to produce the records defined in the quality plan or procedures. For catalyst testing, conventional small tubular reactors are commonly employed today [2]. However, although the reactors are small, this is not the case for their environment. Large panels of complex fluidic handling manifolds, containment vessels, and extended analytical equipment encompass the tube reactors. Detection is often the bottleneck, since it is still performed in a serial fashion. To overcome this situation, there is the vision, ultimately, to develop PC-card-sized chip systems with integrated microfluidic, sensor, control, and reaction components [2]. Sediment deposition. Horizontal surfaces collect particles primarily by sedimentation deposition, sometimes referred to as fallout . These can provide valuable information relating to exposure for horizontal surfaces in the field such as water and ground. Most studies measuring spray performance within the application area, and/or outside this area by drift, include horizontal collectors. The most common types of such collector include flat papers, cards and plates. Water- and oil-sensitive papers have been widely used for looking at the uniformity of spray coverage, coefficient of variation, droplet densities and approximate droplet size within a spray block. [Pg.980]

Water-sensitive papers are readily available in most countries and provide a convenient system for visually assessing spray drift performance. These papers are coated with bromoethyl blue, which turns from yellow to blue when contacted with water. " However, since any water can cause this change in color, care needs to be taken to prevent accidental exposure to sources of water other than the pesticide. Such cards do not work well under humid conditions, and are not appropriate for sampling droplets with diameter below 15 qm. Quantitative estimates of droplet size distributions must take account of the exponential increase in droplet volume as the droplet diameter increases. As droplets strike the paper, the liquid spreads over the surface and leaves a stain with a size that is dependent on the volume of the droplet. The apparent droplet size will be greater for large droplets than for small droplets, and the size determination must be corrected to avoid bias. [Pg.980]

Each time one of these changes is made, there is a chance for an error to occur. So after each change the program must be checked to see that it responds correctly under as many varied situations as possible. Most programs have special input card decks, or tapes, that have been prepared to perform these tests. These are merely a set of specific input data for which the responses have been hand-calculated. If the computer and hand-calculated results agree, the program is considered correct. Of course, when the data bank is altered the answers are altered.
