While professional awareness has increased, there are still hindrances to universal access in the workplace. Today almost all companies have access to the Internet, but company policy may limit usage during business hours or on company equipment Also, many countries still face prohibitive online access charges, although free market competition will take care of that in time, and Canada s no-charge policy may well be the wave of the future ... 

Online Connections. One highly reHable telecommunications network is DIALNET, offered by DIALOG. DIALNET offers dial-up access from over 50 principal U.S. cities at 300, 1200, 2400, and higher baud rates to 9600. Other networks for users in the United States and Canada include SprintNet or TYMNET networks. INWATS and INTERNET access is also available. In other countries, timeshare telecommunications access is available through the local PTT rates vary from country to country. Access is also available through services such as TWX, international telex, outward WATS or ETS for these services, the user bears the communication charges directly (4).

ITER is a free Internet database of human health risk values for over 600 chemicals of environmental concern from several organizations worldwide. The data are presented in table format with side-by-side comparisons of risk values from the various organizations, below which are synopses that provide explanations for differences among risk values as well as links to more detailed information. ITER currently contains data from the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR), Health Canada, National Institute of Public Health and the Environment, The Netherlands (RFVM), US EPA, and independent parties whose risk values have undergone peer review.
