Bunker C fuel oil

A 60% efficient pump driven by a 10 hp motor is used to transfer bunker C fuel oil from a storage tank to a boiler through a well-insulated line. The pressure in the tank is 1 atm, and the temperature is 100°F. The pressure at the burner in... [Pg.139]

Thirteen months after the spill in 1988 of 230,000 gallons of Bunker C fuel oil off the Washington coast, only trace levels of oil were found in surface sediments (Strand et al. 1992). [Pg.137]

Biodegradation can be accelerated in a prepared bed reactor with forced aeration. These reactors (Figure 1.2) are used at many Superfund sites for bioremediation of PAHs and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene) (Alexander, 1994). This method, with recirculating leachate, was used to reduce the average total petroleum hydrocarbon concentration in a diesel-contaminated soil from 6200 mg/kg dry soil to 280 mg/kg in approximately 7 weeks (Reynolds et al., 1994). A bed reactor with forced aeration was also used to treat 115 000 m3 of soil contaminated with bunker C fuel oil (Compeau, Mahaffey Patras, 1991) and 23 000 m3 of soil contaminated with gasoline and fuel oil (Block, Clark Bishop, 1990). [Pg.27]

Bunker fuel— A relatively viscous, liquid hydrocarbon mixture, also known as bunker-C fuel oil, that remains after lighter hydrocarbons are distilled from petroleum during refining. Bunker C is used as a fuel by oil-fired generating stations, heating plants, and ships. [Pg.645]

Production estimates for different fuels range from 2.5 to 3.4 kg of lime/kg of coke [7] or coal [8], approximately equivalent to 4.5 kg of lime/kg of Bunker C fuel oil [9]. Alternative fuels have been examined [10, 11]. [Pg.204]

For many years, the term Bunker C fuel oil has been widely used to designate the most viscous residual fuels for general land and marine use. Recognizing the need for a wide and more accurate classification for residual fuels, particularly when used for marine applications, in 1977 the major oil companies in cooperation with other interested parties introduced an expanded list of grading for residual oils. The intermediate fuel oil (IFO) grades are based upon the kinetic viscosity in centistokes (cSt) at 50°C. [Pg.1050]

N Day Tank Area. The 184-N plant service power house has three aboveground oil day tanks located outside the building on the north side and one 5,678 L (1,500 gal) diesel fuel underground storage tank. These include two 130,000-L (35,000-gal) No. 6 (Bunker C) fuel oil day tanks and one 30,000-L (8,000-gal) diesel oil day tank. The day tanks are surrounded by a concrete retaining wall with the ground surface exposed inside. [Pg.143]

FIG. H-21 Suction-type heater, normally installed in tank side nozzle to heat up relatively larger flows of viscous materials using steam, hot water, or other heating fluid in the tubes. These heaters normally have low shell side pressure drops to minimize npsh problems on pumps. For very high viscosity fluids, consult the manufacturer for methods of reducing intake viscosity. An Internal shutoff valve can be used to allow easy bunde removal. Main uses of this type heater Include bunker C, fuel oils, asphalt, molasses, caustic, etc. (Source Armstrong Engineering Associates.)... [Pg.407]
