Insulating linings

High temperature lines that grow due to thermal expansion are supported by shoes welded or strapped to the bottom of the pipe at the pipe support locations. Insulated lines must have insulation breaks at the support or be supported by shoes. Large-diameter lines are often used to support smaller lines at locations in between the supports by miming a support beam attached to two larger-sized lines below the smaller lines. [Pg.80]

Traditional cold store construction was to build an insulated lining within a masonry shell. The outer skin would be erected in brick and concrete, and rendered as smooth as possible inside with cement plaster, to take the insulation. When the surface was dry, it would have several coats of bitumen applied as a vapour barrier and slabs of insulation material stuck to this with hot bitumen. This was normally carried out in two or more layers so that joints did not pass right through the insulant, but were staggered. The inner skin would be finished with cement plaster, reinforced with wire mesh. The usual insulant was slab cork. [Pg.178]

A 60% efficient pump driven by a 10 hp motor is used to transfer bunker C fuel oil from a storage tank to a boiler through a well-insulated line. The pressure in the tank is 1 atm, and the temperature is 100°F. The pressure at the burner in... [Pg.139]

Pigment preparations are frequently used in the PVC cable industry for coloration. The pigment content is often selected in such a way that one part by weight of the preparation is used to color 100 parts by weight of the polymer compound. The shades and color codes for cables and insulated lines are specified in standards in various European countries [35],... [Pg.170]

Cryogenic fluid transfer lines are generally classified as one of three types uninsulated, foam-insulated lines, and vacuum-insulated lines. The latter may entail vacuum insulation alone, evacuated powder insulation, or multilayer insulation. A vapor barrier must be applied to the outer surface of foam-insulated transfer lines to minimize the degradation of the insulation that occurs when water vapor and other condensables are permitted to diffuse through the insulation to the cold surface of the lines. [Pg.190]

This reactor section containing the fluidized bed is 28 inches od and 15 inches id. The insulation lining is 4 inches of Type 1620-K fire brick (Babcock and Wilcox Co.) and 2 inches of Plicast Tuff-Mix castable refractory (Plibrico Co.). The height of this section is 8 ft. Above the fluidized bed section, the reactor diameter expands to 35 inches od and 22 inches id. This particle-disengaging chamber is 4 ft high and is lined in the same manner as the fluidized bed section. [Pg.19]
