Sandalwood Oil, East Indian. The use of sandalwood oil for its perfumery value is ancient, probably extending back some 4000 years. Oil from the powdered wood and roots of the tree Santalum album L. is produced primarily in India, under government control. Good quaUty oil is a pale yellow to yellow viscous Hquid characterized by an extremely soft, sweet—woody, almost ariimal—balsarnic odor. The extreme tenacity of the aroma makes it an ideal blender—fixative for woody-Oriental—floral fragrance bases. It also finds extensive use for the codistillation of other essential oils, such as rose, especially in India. There the so-called attars are made with sandalwood oil distilled over the flowers or by distillation of these flowers into sandalwood oil. The principal constituents of sandalwood oil are shown in Table 11 (37) and Figure 2. [Pg.310]

Amyris Oil. Obtained by steam distillation of the wood of y m hakamijera L., the so-called West Indian sandalwood which is indigenous to northern South America, Central America, and the West Indies, amyris oil [8015-65-4] is a pale yellow to brownish yellow viscous oil with a slightly oily-sweet and occasionally peppery balsamic woody note. It finds use as a blender and fixative for soap fragrances. The volatile constituents, which are primarily hydrocarbon and oxygenated sesquiterpenes, are shown in Table 22 and Figure 5 (63). [Pg.319]

Multitube Blenders. These blenders, eg, the Phillips and Young type, ate widely used to blend materials that are free-flowing, uniform in size. [Pg.561]

BI SERT Blenders. The design of a BINSERT blender consists of a hopper-within-a-hopper, both of which ate usually conical ia shape (Fig. 15). Particles flow through the inner hopper as well as through the annulus between the inner and outer hoppers. By varyiag the relative position of these two hoppers as well as the configuration of the outlet geometry, it is possible to achieve between a 5 1 and 10 1 velocity differential between particles ia the inner hopper compared to particles ia the outer annular region (7,17). [Pg.562]

As in the United States, Canadians use com, rye, and barley malt. Their process is essentially the same as the one used by many distiHedes in the United States. Since they have no limitations on distillation proofs, distillers operate their systems for optimum separation and congener concentration. In addition, they are permitted to add blenders or flavoring components up to 9.06% by volume in the final blending after the aging process. [Pg.81]

The most famous brandy comes from the Cognac region of France. It is double distiked in traditional pot stiks by smak farmers and sold to the blenders for aging in limousin oak casks. French law requires that the stiks be 3000 Hters or less and that the distikation be completed by March 31. [Pg.83]

Disk Pads. Organic and sernimetalHc disks ate produced by somewhat similar processes after the mixes are formed. The mix for organics is prepared in an intensive mixer. The mix for semimetalHcs generally requites a less intensive blender. The mix is then pressed into preforms at room temperature and 28—42 MPa (4—6 kpsi) pressure.
