Binder formulation

As previously mentioned, the chief role of the binder is essentially to carry the powder and allow flow and packing of the powder in the die cavity. Subsequently, the binder is also necessary for the green body to retain its shape before sintering. [Pg.218]

Binder compositions and debinding techniques are basically the main differences between various MIM/PIM processes. In fact, these two aspects are the main focus of many patents for MIM/PIM processes. Currently, there are various kinds of binders used in the MIM or PIM industry. Generally, binders can be broadly classified under the following groups  [Pg.218]

Mixing, Viscosity and Uniformity of Mixture. Extremely low viscosity. Good Adhesion to powders. Chemically passive with respect to powders [Pg.219]

Molding. Low viscosity at molding temperature. Low thermal expansion coefficient. High thermal conductivity [Pg.219]

Green strength. Good Mechanical Properties. Good Adhesion to powders [Pg.219]

We realized, however, that if the polyesteramides merely acted as multi 2-hy-droxypropyl-amide functional polymers, they could never provide good flow and optical appearance of the coatings. From the mathematical theory of network formation [24] it is known that a binder formulation with a 2-functional resin and a crosslinker bearing many (> 5) functional groups reaches its gel-point at low chemical conversion, as shown in Fig. 21. [Pg.64]

Using silicon nitride powder in a polypropylene/microcrystalline wax/stearic acid binder formulation, the effect of filler volume fraction (V) (over the range 50 to 70%) on relative viscosity (rjj.) was predicted from Eq. 5 ... [Pg.163]

The NTO/TNT formulation is characterized by a lower vulnerability than RDX/ TNT and Composition B. NTO is also used to produce pressed PBXs with thermoplastic binders and cast PBXs with thermosetting binders for IMs. NTO is an explosive with calculated performance near that of RDX but with insensitivity approaching that of TATB. Possible use of NTO is as an alternative to RDX in formulations where a lower sensitivity is desired or as an alternative to TATB where better performance is required without a large increase in sensitivity [123, 152, 153, 215]. The formulations based on NTO/binder (FPC-461, Viton-A, Kel-F800, Estane-5702 and Kraton G) in 95/5 (mass percent concentrations) have also been tested for compatibility and none of the NTO/binder formulations showed evidence of incompatibility. [Pg.124]

With adjustments in composition to compensate for the chemical features of each aromatic hydroxyl source, a wood binder formulated with any of the materials discussed above [28] will be deemed highly effective if it can be (1) formulated at lower cost, (2) applied with conventional equipment, (3) reacted under the same process conditions, and (4) so strong an adhesive that... [Pg.134]

Special effect pigments are used as colorants or part of color formulations for all systems where traditional pigments are applied, but where additional color depth, brilliance, iridescence, color travel, and other spectacular effects are required [5.122, 5.123]. Mica-based pigments dominate their combination of pearl and interference effects, brilliance, stability and behavior in different application systems is as yet unsurpassed. Pearl luster pigments require transparent or at least translucent binders. Formulations with absorption pigments have to take their transparency and color mixing rules into account... [Pg.251]

SPI as a co-binder in paper coating binder formulations remains a vital patt of the paper industry. Today, soy protein coatings are used in a variety of coated papet and paperboard applications. There should be steady growth in soy protein used in this application, provided SPI remains price-competitive with synthetic latex binders, which is likely, due to projected high petroleum prices relative to agricultural products. [Pg.567]

On the whole, the SSL particleboard obtained by Shen cannot be compared technically with exterior-grade PF particleboard. The Shen procedure, however, has found no practical application yet, as the results obtained are still far from those obtainable with PF particleboard. In 1977 Shen mentioned that a short production trial run had been carried out at a waferboard plant although the preliminary results were promising, additional work was still required to modify the binder formulation and production parameters to meet the requirements of plant operation, and to obtain results comparable to those of PF particleboard. The Shen system, however, is used in the manufacture of some types of hardboard (high density fiberboard). [Pg.587]

In the resins developed environment-Mendly, non-toxic polymeric materials of natural-origin constitute as much as 94% of the total panel binder formulation. The wood panel itself is, thus, constituted of 99.5% natural materials. [Pg.390]

Washall [566] has reviewed analytical pyrolysis of cationic alkylammonium halide surfactants and has shown that analytical pyrolysis is a technique that works well even with trace quantities (low ppm level). For applications which require protection of sample integrity, as in forensic science and in art conservation, analytical pyrolysis is an obvious analytical tool. Bart [563] has reviewed polymer/additive analysis by flash pyrolysis techniques and Challinor [567] the applications of analytical pyrolysis in forensic science. Paints, varnishes, glues, pigments, waxes, organic binder formulations have been studied from the aspects of both conservancy and authentication. [Pg.222]

New developments in upgrading color quality and stability of organic pigments since about 1950 made a reappraisal of binder formulations imperative. This research had the goal of upgrading enamels through better design of alkyds and amino resins. [Pg.385]

The application of polymers to binder formulation for metal injection molding (MIM) has been discussed. The different classifications of binder formulations were listed and described. Rheological, thermal and mechanical properties of the feedstock was described with respect to the effects from powder loading, temperature, binder composition and binder-powder interaction. Morphology inspection by SEM was also discussed. It could reveal the state of adhesion between the powders and binders and is an important technique in the study. [Pg.277]

J. M. Warnes, and A. ernyhough. Plastic-fiber composite products/pellets used as feedstock in e.g. plastic manufacture, are obtained by breaking down lignocellulosic material or natural fiber, applying binder formulation and forming pellets or granules. New Zealand Forest Res Inst Ltd (2011). [Pg.160]

Two important product properties of pigmented acrylic and alkyd paints that will be described in detail here are dirt pickup resistance and hiding power. Both of these two product properties can be improved by adding glycerolpropylsilyl-modified silica dispersions to the binder formulation. [Pg.134]

Table 9.8 shows the composition (FP 2019/1) of waterborne acrylic paints to which varying amounts of glycerolpropylsilyl-modified silica dispersion (Bindzil CC301) have been added to the binder formulation, i.e., the letdown. Positions 9-13 in Table 9.8 constitute the letdown in the paint formulation, whereas positions 1-8 constitute the mill base of the paint formulation. The reference formulation in table 9.8 does not contain any glycerolpropylsilyl-modified silica dispersion in the letdown [68]. [Pg.134]
