Extmsion techniques are used to make tubes, rods, gaskets, preforms, etc. Standard mbber equipment may be used to extmde fluorosihcone elastomers. The green strength of fluorosihcones is less than that of typical fluorocarbon elastomers, and this should be considered when designing the feed system. [Pg.400]

Neoprene—phenohc contact adhesives, known for thein high green strength and peel values, contain a resole-type resin prepared from 4-/-butylphenol. The alkyl group increases compatibiHty and reduces cross-linking. This resin reacts or complexes with the metal oxide, eg, MgO, contained in the formulation, and increases the cohesive strength of the adhesive. In fact, the reactivity with MgO is frequently measured to determine the effectiveness of heat-reactive phenoHcs in the formulation. [Pg.303]

Waterborne contact adhesives contain an elastomer in latex form, usually an acryflc or neoprene-based latex, and a heat-reactive, cross-linkable phenohc resin in the form of an aqueous dispersion. The phenoHc resin improves metal adhesion, green strength, and peel strength at elevated temperature. A typical formulation contains three parts latex and one part phenohc dispersion (dry weight bases). Although metal oxides may be added, reaction of the oxide with the phenohc resin does not occur readily. [Pg.304]

Smaller products, such as bmshes and seal rings, are often molded at room temperature from mix that is milled after cooling. When binder levels exceed approximately 30% of the mix, the compacted milled mix has sufficient green strength to faciUtate handling ki preparation for the baking operation. [Pg.503]

Plasticizers. Plasticizers (36—38) are often added to a binder to reduce cross-link density and increase flexibiHty. Plasticizers improve toughness, springback, and flexibiHty, but degrade overall green strength. Additionally, plasticizers can increase the sensitivity of a binder system to moisture. [Pg.307]

Whilst the blend has a good green strength it is usual to vulcanise the rubber by an accelerated sulphur system using a higher than usual accelerator sulphur ratio. [Pg.306]

Polyester diols are often combined with polyether diols to provide green strength through crystallization or elevated r . Most prevalent and least expensive is hexamethylene diol adipate (HDA) with a Tm of about 60°C. A variety of polyesters are available with various levels of crystallinity — from wax-like to amorphous — and crystallization rate, and with values ranging well below 0°C to above room temperature. Polybutadiene diols are the most expensive and most hydrophobic. They provide low surface tension and thus good wet out of non-polar surfaces. [Pg.733]
