Authorized representative defined

As discussed by Ranada and Trueba [1], Faraday thought of lines of force as real and physical, and these authors represent magnetic lines of force by a complex function ( , X, Y, Z) of time and Cartesian coordinates. Any magnetic field [1] is therefore defined by... [Pg.497]

Section 1926.449 defines acceptable as An installation or equipment is acceptable to the Assistant Secretary of Labor, and approved within the meaning of this subpart K (a) If it is accepted, or certified, or listed, or labeled, or otherwise determined to be safe by a qualified testing laboratory capable of determining the suitability of materials and equipment for installation and use in accordance with this standard or (b) With respect to an installation or equipment of a kind which no qualified testing laboratory accepts, certifies, lists, labels, or determines to be safe, if it is inspected or tested by another Federal agency, or by a State, municipal, or other local authority responsible for enforcing occupational safety provisions of the National Electrical Code, and found in compliance with those provisions or (c) With respect to custom-made equipment or related installations which are designed, fabricated for, and intended for use by a particular customer, if it is determined to be safe for its intended use by its manufacturer on the basis of test data which the employer keeps and makes available for inspection to the Assistant Secretary and his authorized representatives. ... [Pg.1392]

The authorized representative of the designated (or alternate) facility s owner or operator must note in this space any discrepancies between the waste described on the manifest and the waste actually received at the facility. Manifest discrepancies are significant differences (as defined by 264.72(b) and 265.72(b)) between the quantity or type of hazardous waste designated on the manifest or shipping paper, and the quantity and type of hazardous waste a facility actually receives, rejected wastes, which may be a fiiU or partial shipment of hazardous waste that the TSDF cannot accept, or container residues, which are residues that exceed the quantity limits for empty containers set forth in 40 CFR 261.7(b). [Pg.511]

In the Taupo volcanic zone of New Zealand, the 26.5 ka Oruanui eruption was studied by Charlier and Zellmer (2000). Three fractions of zircons (sub 63 pm 63-125 pm 125-250 pm) were extracted from the rhyolitic pumice, which together with the whole rock respectively define three ages from 5.5 to 12.3 ka before eruption (Fig. 12b). Microscopic observation of the zircons showed that they are composed of a core surrounded by euhedral rims, and the preferred explanation of the authors is that zircons represent mixtures in variable proportions of old crystal cores crystallized 27 ka before eruption and crystal rims crystallized just before eruption. [Pg.145]

The authors have been intimately involved in eondueting research to address many aspects of environmental contaminants for about three decades. Historically, samples of environmental matrices, particularly water and air have been collected at narrow windows of time (i.e., minutes or several hours) which are not representative of the exposure experienced by organisms. Consequently, we initiated the development of what would ultimately be the semipermeable membrane device (SPMD). The SPMD has subsequently proven to be an effective passive sampler for a wide range of hydrophobic contaminants in multiple media. To date, there are more than 180 peer reviewed publications in the open scientific literature, where SPMDs are used for a variety of applications. Some of these publications are critical of the use of passive samplers for certain applications. However, constructive criticism has greatly aided in defining information gaps and limitations of the passive sampling approach. [Pg.231]

In Ireland, compliance with toxicity limits for selected industries is ascertained by annual or biannual test on representative samples of effluent. The test species most commonly used is the rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri). Control authorities normally require results from 96-hour tests. The toxicity values are expressed as the minimum acceptable proportion of effluent (as a percentage) in a test resulting in 50% fish mortality after 96 hours of exposure. The toxic units (TU) are defined as the maximum number of times an effluent may be diluted to produce the test criteria (TU = 100/96-hour LC50, with LC50 expressed as the percentage of effluent in the test) (Fig. 5). [Pg.45]

The functions of an authorised representative are not precisely defined in the Directives except for the IVDD, but such a person is explicitly designated by the manufacturer, and acts and maybe addressed by authorities and bodies in the Community instead of the manufacturer with regard to the latter s obligations. It would be good practice for the manufacturer to have a written contract recording their relationship. [Pg.545]
