Aqueous coating solutions

Examples of aqueous coating solutions include water-soluble low molecular weight cellulose ethers, emulsion polymerization latexes of polymethacrylates, and dispersions of water-insoluble polymers such as ethyl-cellulose in the form of pseudolatex. These solvent-free coating solutions provide a range of different coatings... [Pg.2330]

Copolymers of diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride [7398-69-8] with acrylamide have been used in electroconductive coatings (155). Copolymers with acrylamide made in activated aqueous persulfate solution have flocculating activity increasing with molecular weight (156). DADM ammonium chloride can be grafted with cellulose from concentrated aqueous solution catalysis is by ammonium persulfate (157). Diallyl didodecylammonium bromide [96499-24-0] has been used for preparation of polymerized vesicles (158). [Pg.88]

Electroless nickel-phosphorus should not be used with either fused or hot, strong, aqueous caustic solutions because the coating offers lower resistance to attack than does electrodeposited nickel. As-deposited electroless nickel-boron, however, offers good resistance to hot aqueous caustic solutions It is also resistant to solutions of oxidising salts such as potassium dichromate, permanganate, chlorate and nitrate. [Pg.537]

For formation of anticorrosive and adhesion-improving protective layers on metals the cleaned surface is treated with aqueous acidic solution containing molybdate, chromium fluoride, phosphate, acetate, and Zn ions. As dispersant a mixture of 60% alkali salt of a phosphate ester, 20% alkylpolyglucoside, and 20% fatty alcohol ethoxylate was applied. This method passivates the metal surface by formation of an anticorrosive and protective layer that improves adhesion of subsequent coatings. [Pg.604]

The predominant RO membranes used in water applications include cellulose polymers, thin film oomposites (TFCs) consisting of aromatic polyamides, and crosslinked polyetherurea. Cellulosic membranes are formed by immersion casting of 30 to 40 percent polymer lacquers on a web immersed in water. These lacquers include cellulose acetate, triacetate, and acetate-butyrate. TFCs are formed by interfacial polymerization that involves coating a microporous membrane substrate with an aqueous prepolymer solution and immersing in a water-immiscible solvent containing a reactant [Petersen, J. Memhr. Sol., 83, 81 (1993)]. The Dow FilmTec FT-30 membrane developed by Cadotte uses 1-3 diaminobenzene prepolymer crosslinked with 1-3 and 1-4 benzenedicarboxylic acid chlorides. These membranes have NaCl retention and water permeability claims. [Pg.47]

In the commercial version of the PAMPA assay, a sandwich (Fig. 7.9) is formed from a specially-designed 96-well microtiter plate [pION] and a 96-well microfilter plate [several sources], such that each composite well is divided into two chambers donor at the bottom and acceptor at the top, separated by a 125-pm-thick microfilter disk (0.45 pm pores, 70% porosity, 0.3 cm2 cross-sectional area), coated with a 10% wt/vol dodecane solution of egg lecithin (a mixed lipid containing mainly PC, PE, a slight amount of PI, and cholesterol), under conditions that multilamellar bilayers are expected to form inside the filter channels when the system contacts an aqueous buffer solution [543]. [Pg.128]

Zinc electrowinning takes place in an electrolytic cell and involves running an electric current from a lead-silver alloy anode through the aqueous zinc solution. This process charges the suspended zinc and forces it to deposit onto an aluminum cathode (a plate with an opposite charge) that is immersed in the solution. Every 24 to 48 h, each cell is shut down, the zinc-coated cathodes removed and rinsed, and the zinc mechanically stripped from the aluminum plates. The zinc concentrate is then melted and cast into ingots, and is often as high as 99.995% pure. [Pg.92]

Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, was covalently coupled, via an amide bond, to a modified polystyrene having A-(2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl) isonicotinamide units. The dopamine-coupled polymer was coated onto glassy carbon electrodes. In aqueous electrolyte solutions (pH 7), cathodic current caused cleavage of the amide linkage and release of dopamine at potentials more negative than 0.9 V [41]. The chemical scheme for the amide bond cleavage is presented in Figure 18. [Pg.577]
