Explosives applications

Explosion doors open in case of an explosion, thereby releasing the vent area. Depending on the application, explosion doors may be selected which remain open or close automatically after releasing the explosion. [Pg.2326]

The requirements of a military explosive are very stringent and very few explosives meet all the characteristics necessary to make them acceptable for military applications. In order to determine suitability of an explosive for military applications, explosives are first investigated for properties described in the previous section followed by their study from the point of view of volatility, toxicity, hygro-scopicity and density which are considered of paramount importance because of field conditions and optimal performance requirement. [Pg.35]

Several explosive devices have recently been developed to enhance general safety. Some examples are air bags which protect the driver from injury in car collisions, and seatbelt tensioners which, when tied up with the action of an air bag, hold the driver to the seat. Explosives are also used as a source of shock waves in medical equipment for breaking up gall stones in a patient s body. In yet another application, explosives are used to generate shock waves in a patient s body water which are then focused on a kidney stone to break it. [Pg.310]

Process Description Obsolete munitions and rocket motors can be inspected and reused for training or similar applications. Explosives and energetic materials can be remanufactured into new explosive products, or processed to separate and recover the energetic materials for reuse (see Figure 3.2). [Pg.204]

The physical, chemical and hazardous properties of a number of highly toxic or flammable substances that were in the past or being currently used in the warfare have been discussed in detail in several chapters in this book. Some of these compounds are further discussed under specific chapters, such as. Sulfur Mustards, Nerve Gases, Dioxin and Related Compounds and Napalm. These and many other compounds are in most cases grouped together in this book based on their chemical structures along with their toxic or flammable properties. Presented below is a brief discussion on various types of chemicals weapons developed for military applications. Explosive substances have been omitted from this section. They are discussed separately in this book under topics such as Explosive Characteristics of Chemical Substances, Nitro Explosives, Oxidizers and Organic Peroxides and also under specific title compounds in various chapters. [Pg.80]

Our separators and decanters, developed specially for the chemical industry, ensure safe production. They fulfil all applicable explosion proof regulations, and are rated for overpressure conditions. [Pg.11]

In the next sectiorr, plasticizers are discttssed in twenty-forrr sections. Twenty-two sections are based on chemical similarity and two are based on applications (explosives and cementitious products) because chemical compositions of these plasticizers are very different than the plasticizers nsed in other markets. [Pg.696]
