Sulphuric acid Used in the production of sulphates as an acidic oxidizer used as a dehydrating and purifying agent used for the neutralization of alkaline solutions used as a catalyst in organic synthesis used in the manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, dyestuffs, paper used as a component of drain and metal cleaners, antirust compounds and automobile battery fluids. [Pg.82]

This ASTM manual has been developed by Committee D-15 on Engine Coolants and is a revision to ASTM Special Technical Publication (STP) 120B. This publication provides consumers with practical information and advice on engine coolants as well as cooling system chemicals, such as cleaning compounds and practices, antirusts, and stop-leaks. This fourth edition presents new information on coolants containing silicates for the protection of aluminum components in today s engines. [Pg.5]

Select the engine coolant or antirust with care to ensure adequate corrosion protection. Use only those products conforming to recognized standards such as ASTM D 3306 for engine coolant. Additionally, if your vehicle engine contains major cast aluminum components, be certain the engine coolant meets the heat rejection corrosion limits in ASTM specification D 3306 as determined by ASTM Test Method for Corrosion of Cast Aluminum Alloys in Engine Coolants Under Heat-Transfer Conditions (D 4340). [Pg.10]

If year-round protection is not provided by the use of an inhibited engine coolant, such as in some heavy duty engines, then it is necessary to add an effective antirust to the coolant water. [Pg.17]

Different proprietary antirusts may not be compatible with each other. The manufacturer s directions should always be followed with respect to mixture and dosage. [Pg.17]

Contact with air is no worse than for the general industrial bearings, because most of the systems are now designed substantially closed. However, water contamination is prominent, because of the large quantities of quench water. Demulsibility is highly important oxidation stability probably is next in importance. Antioxidants, antirust agents, and antifoam agents are used in some oils for such service. [Pg.239]

Sulfonates and phenates provide excellent engine antirust properties but phenates provide lower ash content at equal alkalinity when compared to sulfonates (Bartz, 1993 Bhushan, 2001a Pirro and Wessol, 2001 Stachowiak and Batchelor, 2001). The formulae of major classes of detergents are shown in Table 2.5. [Pg.26]

Control samples are a necessity in most soil sampling investigations. They should be sampled and processed the same way as other samples. Issues that may affect the validity of control samples are to ensure that the sampling tools are clean and not to treat sampling tools with oil or any other antirust agent. [Pg.25]

Brominated styrene grafted onto PET is capable of acting as a nonvolatile FR for PET fabrics [328]. Polyphosphate esters can be used as flame retardant plasticizers [204], phosphorus containing moieties act as color improvers and thermostabilizers in polyesters [198, 205]. Antistatic properties of copolymers containing moieties with sulfonic acids have been reported [107]. Some polymers, like poly(JV-vinylimidazole) impart anticorrosive and antirusting properties to protective coatings of metals [329]. [Pg.152]

Use Water-soluble salts, fatty acid derivatives, textile softeners, pharmaceuticals, antirust compositions, emulsifying agents in acid media, derivatives containing tertiary amine groups, curing agent for resins. [Pg.415]

Corrosion. Corrosion of aluminum cooking vessels by acid fruit juices decreases as the concentration of sucrose increases (87). Edible beet molasses and, to a lesser degree, sugar solutions have a reported antirust effect when painted on metal surfaces (115). Affermi (1) has studied the effect of boiling sucrose solutions on many metals, including nine steel alloys. Sucrose has buffering capacity (41) which may explain, in part, its retardation of corrosion. [Pg.9]
