Alliances

The industry is increasingly acknowledging the value of oontractors and service companies in improving their individual core capabilities through alliances, i.e. a joint venture for a particular project or a number of projects. A lead contractor e.g. a drilling company may form alliances with a number of sub contractors to be able to cover a wider spectrum of activities e.g. completions, workovers and well interventions. [Pg.63]

Supplier partnerships or alliances have been used to control the cost of procurement. They are based on methods developed in Japan, initially in the automobile industry. These methods have been extended into the process industry and for the purchase of such items as compressor trains. Generally as originally conceived, they were intended mainly for commodity items. By using some innovative approaches, the concept of partnerships or alliances has been extended into the purchase of custom equipment. [Pg.439]

In this text, partnerships include alliances. Some companies prefer the alternate name. Partnerships are structured in many different ways. They may be project specific, commodity specific, or even company specific. Each company has its own qualification criteria. It is beyond the scope ol this book to go into detail on these because that is material for a text of its own. The intent here is to introduce the reader to the concept if it is not known and meld in the negotiarion modifiers for both neophyte and veteran... [Pg.439]

The confluence of sharply rising Operations and Maintenance (O M) costs. NRC requested Individual Plant Examinations (IPEs) and increased personal computer capabilities gave rise to the R R Workstation. Its uses and maintains-current PSA models and databases for individual plants to perform O M planning and scheduling, and uses the PSA in IPE models to identify plant design, procedure and operational vulnerabilities. The Risk and Reliability Workstation Alliance was organized by EPRI to support the R R Workshop in order to achieve O M cost reduction, plant productivity and safety enhancement through risk-based, user-friendly, windowed software louls (Table 3.6 8). The Alliance, initiated in 1992, includes 25 U.S. utilities and four international partners from Spain, France, Korea, and Mexico. SAIC is the prime contractor for the R R Workstation, with participation of five other PSA vendors. [Pg.144]

Smaller diameter columns are especially useful when expensive solvents are used. Figure 11.3 shows the analysis of poly (1,4-butylene terephthalate) using a Waters Alliance narrow-bore GPC system, quantitated against narrow polymethylmethacrylate standards. In this case, the solvent used is hexaflu-oro-2-isopropanol with 0.05 M sodium trifluoroacetic acid at a flow rate of... [Pg.333]

SEC measurements were made using a Waters Alliance 2690 separation module with a 410 differential refractometer. Typical chromatographic conditions were 30°C, a 0.5-ml/min flow rate, and a detector sensitivity at 4 with a sample injection volume of 80 fil, respectively, for a sample concentration of 0.075%. All or a combination of PEO standards at 0.05% concentration each were used to generate a linear first-order polynomial fit for each run throughout this work. Polymer Laboratories Caliber GPC/SEC software version 6.0 was used for all SEC collection, analysis, and molecular weight distribution overlays. [Pg.502]

A technology agreement was made by Duracell/Toshiba/Varta in 1992, strategically aimed at the portable computer field. In 1994 a joint venture, "The 3 C Alliance" was formed. Standardization of the inventory was the main point. The benefits were seen to be easier replacement and lower cost per unit ( 170 for 6 h ). One of the first commercial partners was Compaq Computer Co. [Pg.69]

A rough estimate is that alliances put together without any training will deliver meaningful results for one or both parties in perhaps three out of ten relationships. If the helper is well trained, the success rate rises to around seven out of ten. If the learner is also trained, both parties are likely to record significant benefits in nine out of ten relationships. If third parties are also trained to support the relationship, the success rate may be even higher. [Pg.255]

Patients requiring detoxification from high or supratherapeutic dosages of benzodiazepines constitute a smaller number of patients, but they are at greater risk for life-threatening discontinuation symptoms, such as seizures, delirium, and psychoses. There has been more experience with inpatient detoxification in this group, but outpatient detoxification is possible if conducted slowly (5% reduction in dose per week), with frequent contact, and in the context of a therapeutic alliance with the patient. Often, such an alliance proves unworkable because the patient s impoverished control results in supplementation from outside sources or early exhaustion of prescribed supplies meant to be tapered. In these cases, as in the cases of patients with a history of seizures, delirium, or psychoses during previous detoxification attempts, inpatient detoxification is indicated. [Pg.132]
