In 2001, a group of manufacturers, recyclers, and government representatives in the U.S.A. formed the National Electronics Product Stewardship Initiative, with the major goal of creating a framework for product stewardship for electronics in the United States. Other product stewardship initiatives were previously initiated in the Northeast and the Western regions of the U.S. The Electronic Industries Alliance oppates a web site that directs consumers to electronics recycling and reuse opportunities. The last edition of the Fuel Cell Handbook was published in November, 2002. Since that time, the Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA-www.seca.doe.gov) has funded activities to bring about dramatic reductions in fuel cell costs, and rates as the most important event to report on since the 2000 edition. SECA industry teams have continued to evaluate and test fuel cell designs, candidate materials, manufacturing methods, and balance-of-plant subsystems. SECA s goal is to cut costs to as low as 400 per kilowatt by the end of this decade, which would make fuel cells competitive for virtually every type of power application. The initiative signifies the Department s objective of developing a modular, all-solid-state fuel cell that could be mass-produced for different uses much the way electronic components are manufactured and sold today. [Pg.17]

A recent award to a company producing semiconductors was made by Global Semiconductor Alliance to SiGe Semiconductor, Inc. in recognition of their efforts in advancing the work on silicon-based RF front-end solutions for wireless connectivity applications in consumer electronics and their lead-free initiative for the industry. [Pg.304]

Acknowledgment. We thank the Industry-Comell Alliance for Electronic Packaging and the Air Force Office of Sponsored Research for financial support. We thank the Amoco Corporation for the donation of the Ultradel 1414. Some of the sol-gel reactions were carried out by Whitney Hapangama. The 9Si NMR were measured by Dr. J. DuChamps and Prof. T. M. Duncan. [Pg.401]
