Advisory Groups

In the next subsection we will discuss the two external advisory groups for Unit activities. The next subsection will then describe Coordinated Research Projects, the primary method used to fulfil the goals of the Unit. We then give a description of the products available to the fusion research community through the A+M Unit. These include the electronic databases, publications, as well as some computational capabilities. 

There are two separate external entities which offer recommendations to the A+M Unit the Atomic and Molecular Data Subcommittee of the International Fusion Research Council (IFRC) and the Atomic and Molecular Data 

The second entity that gives regular input to the Unit is the Data Center Network. This Network also meets biannually. It is made up of representative from 13 institutions from around the world, all having well-established capabilities in the area of data generation in support of fusion energy. The

Some effective team structures distinguish between a core group and a standing advisory group. This can be helpful in assuring consistent feedback from key people (such as facility-based safety experts) who may be unable to participate in regular working sessions but whose input and endorsement will be critical to success. 

Advisory Group are considering different facets of LCA. In 1993, they developed the Code of Practice ,the first worldwide accepted technical framework for LCA. This was an important step towards the harmonisation of the method and has initiated and supported the standardisation process by ISO. Between 1997 and 2000, ISO produced the international series of standard defining the different stages of the LCA methodology (ISO 14040 1997, ISO 14041 1998, ISO 14042 2000 ° as well as ISO 14043 2000° ). As mentioned above, these standards were replaced by two improved editions of life cycle assessment standards in 2006 (ISO 14040 2006 and ISO 14044 2006°). 

The Polyquats or polymerized quaternary salt. If we study the list of algicides approved by the DETR Committee on pages 107 and 108 in the book Swimming Pool Water published by the Pool water treatment Advisory group, we observe the Polyquats WSCP (or BUSAN 77), WSCP-2 (or BUSAN 79) and APCA (or BUSAN 1055) and their impact on Hazard and Incompatibility data . Indeed, these quats have a very low toxicity and are compatible with most swimming pool chemicals used. 

A survey was recently conducted by Cranfield University School of Water Sciences in co-operation with the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group to identify current trends in UK pool water treatment practice. About 500 pools, largely publically-run, were surveyed. 

Research into swimming pool water treatment has been conducted on both the bench and pilot scale at the School of Water Sciences at Cranfield University over the past six years. Much of this has been sponsored jointly by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG). The most recent work has been based on a 2.2m3-capacity pilot plant (Figure 5), a one-seventh linear scale model of an actual operating pool, incorporating all conventional unit... 

ECVAM as part of the JRC fulfills the task to validate alternative methods. Its advisory group ES AC advises ECVAM scientifically and gives expert judgment on the different proposed non-animal tests.

The scheme organizer lays down the rules for the conduct of the tests and the interpretation of the data. This is circulated to the participants so that they understand exactly how the scheme is run and how their results are assessed. The organizer should establish an expert advisory group which will address issues relating to the operation of the scheme, such as the tests and types of samples to be tested under the scheme, how the performance of participants is to be judged, technical difficulties raised by participants and the performance of participants in the scheme as a whole.
