Carbonate rocks are not normally transported over long distances, and we find carbonate reservoir rocks mostly at the location of origin, in situ . They are usually the product of marine organisms. However, carbonates are often severely affected by diagenetic processes. A more detailed description of altered carbonates and their reservoir properties is given below in the description of diagenesis . [Pg.78]

Despite the attractions of economic forces driving environmental protection, some cautions and failures have been noted. Firstly, the export of hazardous waste to countries where costs for treatment are lower enhances environmental risks during transport and has the potential for transboundary export in the event of pollution. In the corrosion protection of marine structures, it is often found that the corrosion rate decreases strongly with increasing depth of water, and protection at these depths can be ignored. Investigations in the Pacific Ocean are often the source of these assumptions [7], However, they do not apply in the North Sea and other sea areas with oil and gas platforms. Maleic anhydride is important as a chemical hecause it polymerizes with other monomers while retaining the double bond, as in unsaturated polyester resins. These resins, which represent the largest end use of maleic anhydride, are employed primarily in fiber-reinforced plastics for the construction, marine, and transportation industries.
