Portable tanks

Transportation of carbon disulfide is controlled by federal regulations (113). Acceptable shipping containers include dmms, tank tmcks, special portable tanks, and rail tank cars. Barges have been used in the past. The United States Department of Transportation classifies carbon disulfide as a flammable bquid and a poison. For ship transport, carbon disulfide must be marked as a marine pollutant (114). AH air transport, cargo, or passenger, is forbidden (115). [Pg.31]

Tanks Tank cars (single and multiple tank), tank trucks, portable tanks, drums, barrels, camoys, and cans are used to transport fluids (see Figs. 10-184-10-186). Interstate transportation is regulated by the DOT. There are other regulating agencies—state, local, and pri-... [Pg.1020]

Graziano s tariff hsts many regulated (dangerous) commodities (Part 172, DOT regulations) for transportation. This includes those that are poisonous, flammable, oxidizing, corrosive, explosive, radioactive, and compressed gases. Part 178 covers specifications for all types of containers from carboys to large portable tanks and tank trucks. Part 179 deals with tank-car construction. [Pg.1020]

Portable tanks, drums, or bottles are shipped by rail, ship, air, or truck. Portable tanks containing hazardous materials must conform to DOT regulations. Parts 173 and 178, Siibpart H. [Pg.1021]

Portable tanks may be stowed io the holds of conventional cargo ships or special container ships, or they may be fastened on deck. [Pg.1022]

Portable tanks for regulated commodities in marine transportation must be designed and Built under Coast Guard regulations (see discussion under Pressure Vessels ). [Pg.1022]

As defined in NFPA 30 portable tanks have capacities above 60 gallons (227 L) and usually below 660 gallons (2498 L). [Pg.149]

As of November 1.1981. identification numbers are required on portable tanks, cargo tanks, and tank cars. [Pg.9]

Definition. A bulk storage plant is that portion of a property where flammable liquids are received by tank vessel, pipelines, tank car, or tank vehicle, and are stored or blended in bulk for the purpose of distributing such liquids by tank vessel, pipeline, tank car, tank vehicle, portable tank, or container. [Pg.644]

In some facilities, there is a need for refrigerated storage of one or more flammable or combustible raw materials, catalysts, intermediate products, or finished goods. These materials may be in solid or liquid form in containers, boxes, drums, or small portable tanks. Depending on quantity of materials to be stored and required temperature, these facilities can range from cold storage warehouses for storage of food products to walk-in freezer rooms for pharmaceutical materials. [Pg.312]

Portable tanks, 1000 liter capacity these are made of mild- or heavy-duty polypropylene with a steel frame. The tanks can be delivered filled in a flat bed truck and are useful for medium-sized precast and cast on site projects. A crane or a fork lift truck is usually use to handle these tanks on site. [Pg.545]

Argon is most economically shipped as a liquid. Liquid argon commonly is transported in liquid cylinders, cryogenic trailers, and portable tanks. Argon can be shipped in high-pressure gas cylinders and high-pressure cylinder trailers. [Pg.1222]

Nitrous oxide is contained and transported in its liquid phase in high-pressure gas cylinders or in liquid cylinders. It is transported as a liquefied compressed gas under high pressure in cylinders and at lower pressures and reduced temperatures in refrigerated cargo tanks and insulated portable tanks. Nitrous oxide is stored in a foam-insulated tank accompanied by a refrigeration unit, which is similar to the tank used for carbon dioxide. [Pg.1232]
