Training session

Many companies use worker—management teams, suggestion boxes, consultant surveys, suppHer training sessions, and other methods to reduce risk of injuries (see Hazard analysis and risk assessment). The principal regulatory burden falls on wastes and discharges which leave the plant (3,53,54). 

Additional information on health and safety aspects should be sought by consulting material safety data sheets available from suppHers of the chemical in question. In addition, most suppHers of bleaching chemicals, upon request, provide on-site training sessions by experts on the safe use and handling of their products. 

If a toller has a contract to perform the same toll repeatedly, but on an infrequent basis, training should not be overlooked in preparation for restarting the repetitive toll. It is a good practice to provide refresher-training sessions to assure that the personnel have received current training. One company has picked a six-month period between campaigns as the indicator that the operations team needs refresher training. 

They should be sent to speeial training sessions where hands-on experienee ean be gained. 

Informal internal communications memos, hallway meetings, drop-in visits, conference calls, training sessions, electronic mail, etc. 

An unannounced visit from a major supplier coincided with a group training session, which gave the Plant Manager the opportunity to brief him on the division s work in PSM.

Naturally there are a few additional topics that should be covered in a mentoring training sessions, and we will discuss these in more detail in Chapter 9. 

Learning styles assessment (could be done during a training session). 

A manager (from, for example, the HR department) who knows a lot about mentoring/mentoring schemes and who has either trained before and/or could be effectively trained by a trainer-trainer to conduct a training session - please note that this person might well be the program co-ordinator. 

In a moment we will look at the content of mentoring training sessions for each frainee group, which is summarized in Table 9.3. 

There follows an outline of a possible training agenda for mentors. You do not have to include all of the components into your training session which ones to include and to what extent will entirely depend on your trainee s level of knowledge, skills and attitudes prior to training. 

As you will remember from our conclusions in Chapter 3, virtually all companies that contributed case studies to our book incorporated expectation management into their training sessions. If you want to ensure that your program nms as planned, then keeping with this tradition is of great importance. It is also vital to have sufficient time in the training program for this issue. 

Between the last time you informed them about the scheme and the time of the training sessions, some minor amendments may have been made to the scheme. This would necessitate an update of individuals knowledge. 

The timing of the training session for each trainee group will again partly depend on the way you have organized your scheme. Thus, if the program co-ordinator needed any briefing at all, he or she would probably have been the first person to receive it and this would have occurred very early on in the life... 

During the training session the performance of the network must be monitored. Different performance criteria are possible, but usually the normalized standard error, NSE, is used. 

The NSE does give, however, a good general idea of the performance of the network and is therefore commonly used during the training session. In Fig. 44.15a a performance curve is shown. The NSE decreases monotonically with the number... 

A way to obtain an idea on the robustness of the obtained solution is to retrain the network with a different weight initialization. The results of the different training sessions can be used to define a range around the performance curve as shown in Fig. 44.17. This procedure can also be used to compare different networks [20]. 

The GLP training should consist of two parts first, a classroom presentation of the materials described in Section 4 above, and second, a field training session where the principals of documentation of mixing, calibration, and applications can be demonstrated. Disposal, cleaning, and maintenance procedures should also be discussed and demonstrated. The classroom presentation should stress that the four key areas to successful implementation of GLPs are (1) Good Science, (2) Documentation,... 

For each session, the number of responses emitted before the first reinforcement was the measure of discrimination accuracy. For example, following PCP administration, if a rat made 10 responses on the left lever before making 10 or more responses on the opposite, unreinforced lever, then the animal correctly identified the training condition for that day. Most rats were clearly discriminating the effects of PCP from vehicle within about 30 training sessions, as demonstrated by the animals emitting their first 10 responses on the appropriate lever in 9 out of 10 consecutive sessi ons. 

After about 30 training sessions, most animals had acquired the PCP vs. vehicle discrimination, as evidenced by at least 9 out of 10 consecutive sessions during which the rats emitted fewer than 20 responses before the first reinforcement. Following this acquisition of the discrimination, the animals were tested in a random order with different doses of PCP. Figure 1 shows the dose-response profile for PCP discrimination in different groups of rats trained to discriminate 1.0, 1.78 or 3.2 mg/kg of PCP from vehicle. At low doses of PCP few, if any, rats chose the lever previously paired with PCP (i.e., most rats chose the vehicle-associated lever).
