Interactive training sessions

Flipper fantasies come true at the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences (RIMS). Adjacent to (and owned by) Anthony s Key Resort, the facility supports longterm research on the health of local coral reefs, and operates an extensive dolphin program that offers various levels of interaction with I 5 of the charming marine mammals — many of which were born at RIMS. Enjoy basic "encounters," lagoon swims or even scuba dive with the dolphins in open water on a reef tour. RIMS (800-227-3483 anthonyskey.com) also runs a summer camp where kids 5 to 14 learn about the animals through feeding and training sessions.

Training sessions with the interactive reading situation ( hypertext-like situation) benefit only older subjects. Nevertheless, a longer training time seems also increase the use of these links by younger pupils (Rouet, 1990c). 

Training employees solely by means of a film or video without the opportunity for a discussion period would constitute a violation of 29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2). Never consider a computer program, even an interactive one, as appropriate unless the employer suppl ents such training with site-specific information required. Provide trainees with direct access to a qualified trainer during all training sessions. OSHA permits anployers to meet the requirement if personnel can directly access a trainer by way of a telephone hotline. OSHA does not consider the use of electronic mail systems to answer employee questions unless a trainer answers e-mailed questions at the time the questions arise.

OSHA has said that the requirement for interactive questions and answers has been interpreted to mean that employees must have direct access to a qualified trainer dming the training session. The use of an electronic mail system to answer employee questions would not be considered direct access to a qualified trainer, unless the trainer is available to answer e-mailed questions at the time the questions arise. Frequently, a student may be rmable to go further with the training or to understand related training content until a response is received. Failure to provide employees direct access to a quahfied trainer would constitute a violation of the bloodborne pathogens standard. 

When considering the overall number of information requests made by the subjects, Figure 3 indicates a tentative interaction between conditions of training and sessions. There was no significant difference between pairs and individuals on session 1. But, on session 2, individuals asked significantly more questions than the pairs since they slightly increased their number of requests compared to session 1 while the pairs asked a lot fewer.
