According to the situation and the learning styles of fhe mentee, it may be appropriate to present these models in verbal or visual form - or the mentor may not present them at all, and simply use them as the framework for asking probing questions. 

Table 6.1 presents some of the characteristics associated with each learning style.

Individuals have different learning styles and, in order to ensure that aU trainees learn as much as possible, different methods should be applied. 

Offer them a learning styles assessment and encourage them to utilize their knowledge about their most/least preferred styles (see Chapter 6). 

Teachers should be aware of the learning styles of both themselves and their students, being able to accommodate differences between the two. The use and value of different schemes of work involving context-based courses, demonstration lectures and cooperative learning have been provided by Tsaparlis (2008).

Do you need to take notes to remember facts and details Have a pen, pencil, highlighter, and notebook ready. Are you at your best early in the morning or late at night Pick the best time, get comfortable, and begin.

You need to use study methods that go beyond rote memorization to genuine comprehension in order to be fully prepared for your test. Clearly, the commercial or consultancy laboratory that tests sub-samples of a marketed product worth millions of pounds, or assesses the purity of pharmaceuticals, or analyses forensic samples, must have far higher levels of both accuracy and verifiability than student practical classes. There should, however, always be an effort to produce the most accurate and reliable results within the constraints of the laboratory facilities available, otherwise a lax attitude will produce work of doubtful interpretation that could mislead others, as well as giving little job satisfaction. Several books, which are more suited to the commercial sector, have been written on the quality of laboratory analysis, however some quality assurance practices could be beneficial in the smaller laboratory. A useful open-learning style book on basic concepts of quality in the analytical laboratory has been co-authored by staff at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist (Crosby et ai, 1995).
