Tradenames

In the late 1980s, new fully aromatic polyester fibers were iatroduced for use ia composites and stmctural materials (18,19). In general, these materials are thermotropic Hquid crystal polymers that are melt-processible to give fibers with tensile properties and temperature resistance considerably higher than conventional polyester textile fibers. Vectran (Hoechst-Celanese and Kuraray) is a thermotropic Hquid crystal aromatic copolyester fiber composed of -hydroxyben2oic acid [99-96-7] and 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid. Other fully aromatic polyester fiber composites have been iatroduced under various tradenames (19). [Pg.325]

The polyamide copolymer of dodecanoic acid with methylenedi(cyclohexylamine) (MDCHA, PACM) was sold as continuous filament yam fiber under the tradename QIANA. As late as 1981, over 145,000 t was produced using high percentages, typically 80%, of trans, trans MDCHA isomer. The low melting raffinate coproduct left after t,t isomer separation by fractional crystallisation was phosgenated to produce a Hquid aUphatic diisocyanate marketed by Du Pont as Hylene W. Upon terrnination of their QIANA commitment, Du Pont sold the urethane intermediate product rights to Mobay, who now markets the 20% trans, trans—50% cis, trans—30% cis, cis diisocyanate isomer mixture as Desmodur W. In addition to its use in polyamides and as an isocyanate precursor, methylenedi (cyclohexyl amine) is used directiy as an epoxy curative. The Hquid diamine mixture identified historically as PACM-20 is marketed as AMICURE PACM by Anchor Chemical for performance epoxies. [Pg.213]

Rifampicin, the only commercially available ansamacroHde, is manufactured by MerreU Dow under the tradename Rifadin, and by CIBA under the trade name Rimactane. Rifampicin is also suppHed in combination with isoniazid or pyrazinamide [98-96-4]. The rifampicin—isoniazid combination is known as Rifamate (MerreU Dow), Rifinah (MerreU Dow), and Rimactazid (CIBA) the rifampicin—pyrazinamide as Rifater (MerreU Dow). Several other rifamycin derivatives including rifabutin and rifapentine are undergoing clinical studies. [Pg.506]

The PE fibres are produced by melt spinning a novolak resin of molecular weight ca 1000 and then cross-linking the molecules by exposure to gaseous formaldehyde at 100-150°C for 6-8 h or with a formaldehyde solution. The fibres were introduced under the tradename Kynol by American Kynol Inc., a subsidiary of Carborundum AG. [Pg.666]

At one time these were the only commercially important non-silane coupling agents. Supplied by du Pont under the Volan tradename, they are coordination complexes of carboxylic acids with chromium(III) chlorides. Hydrolysis of the... [Pg.411]

Polychloroprene rubber (CR) is the most popular and versatile of the elastomers used in adhesives. In the early 1920s, Dr. Nieuwland of the University of Notre Dame synthesized divinyl acetylene from acetylene using copper(l) chloride as catalyst. A few years later, Du Pont scientists joined Dr. Nieuwland s research and prepared monovinyl acetylene, from which, by controlled reaction with hydrochloric acid, the chloroprene monomer (2-chloro-l, 3-butadiene) was obtained. Upon polymerization of chloroprene a rubber-like polymer was obtained. In 1932 it was commercialized under the tradename DuPrene which was changed to Neoprene by DuPont de Nemours in 1936. [Pg.589]

The reader can find an almost endless supply of chemical and physical properties for hundreds of thousands of chemicals and tradename products on the Web. The easiest access to general information resources that contain health risk and some air transport properties are those sites which contain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs). The following are a list of but a few sites worth exploring for chemical-specific information ... [Pg.183]

The TLCP used was a widely investigated one, Vectra A950, manufactured by Hoechst-Celanese. The PC was produced by Enichem under the tradename Sinvet 303. Table 3 lists the main properties of these materials according to the manufacturers. The materials were dried in a vacuum oven at 120°C for 4 h before processing. Prior to injection molding of the composite samples, two components were melt mixed by a ZSK, W P, Stuttgart, extruder with a constant weight ratio of PC-TLCP = 80 20 [23]. [Pg.691]

Tests by Gatenholm et al. [8,10] on PHB-HV copolymers containing cellulose fibers (for example, the tradenamed Biopol) show that the mechanical properties of these systems are determined by the fiber and the fiber matrix interface on the one hand, and on the other hand by the composition of the matrix, that is, of HV proportion in the matrix. At an increased proportion of HV, the stiffness of the composite is reduced up to 30%, whereas elongation at break increases until about 60%. [Pg.806]

More recently there have been developed water- resistant phosphorus-based intumescence catalyst. This commercially available product, as an example Phos-Chek P/30 tradename from Monsanto, can be incorporated (with other water insoluble reagents) into water-resistant intumescent coatings of either the alkyd or latex-emulsion type. These intumescent coatings, formulated ac-... [Pg.400]

Pyrodex. Tradename of a close substitute for BlkPdr, invented by D. Pawlak and distributed by the Hodgdon Powder Co, Shawnee Mission, Kansas intended primarily for use with replica sporting firearms. It can be loaded volume-for -volume with BlkPdr, producing similar pressures and velocities. It smokes, smells and fouls somewhat like BlkPdr, and it is claimed that Pyrodex is actually safer to handle and store than modern smokeless powder (Refs 1 3)... [Pg.977]
