Trade driven

This in-balance between demand and supply is reflected in the increase of global trade driven by globalization. Expansion of world trade for... [Pg.82]

Globalization as shown increase of world trade driven by emerging markets especially in Asia is a main trend not only in the chemical industry (Laudicina 2004). Besides managing global material flows, companies face new markets with suppliers, customers, but also new competitors from emerging markets. [Pg.84]

As the MEs may not to be competitive in producing functional products, most of the needs would be satisfied through imports. We call this the trade driven supply chain, shown in Fig. 7.2. For example in the apparel industry, products that are not fashion-sensitive are produced in the EE, usually in Asia, and imported in large volumes by retailers such as Wal-Mart. Manufacturers in EE obtain large production contracts with lead times of several months and therefore their exposure to demand side risk is negligible. However, they are exposed to a considerable supply side risk, discussed later. [Pg.212]

UF and MF use energy to depolarize membranes so as to increase flux. As is shown in Fig. 22-55, membranes and mechanical equipment are traded off to achieve an overall economic minimum. Three things can drive a design toward the use of more membranes and less mechanical equipment cheaper membranes, veiy high flux, and veiy low flux. The availability of lower-cost membranes is easiest to understand. In the five years ending in 1995, the cost of both membrane area and membrane housings was driven down by competition. [Pg.2043]

The intent of this standard is to eover the normal requirements of the majority of applieations, reeognizing that eeonomie trade-offs and reliability implieations may differ in some applieations. The user may desire to add, delete, or modify the requirements in this standard to meet his speeifie needs, and he has the option of doing so in his own bid speeifiea-tion. The gas turbine eontrol system shall inelude sequeneing, eontrol, proteetion, and operator information, whieh shall provide for orderly and safe start-up of gas turbine, eontrol of proper loading, and an orderly shutdown proeedure. It shall inelude an emergeney shutdown eapability, whieh ean be operated automatieally by suitable failure deteetors or whieh ean be operated manually. Coordination between gas turbine eontrol and driven equipment must be provided for startup, operation, and shutdown. [Pg.152]

It must be emphasized that any energy costs for the separation in the trade-offs shown in Figure 28.7 must be taken within the context of the overall heat integration problem. The separation might after all be driven by heat recovery. [Pg.642]

Suppose a person buys a car for 3,500. Three years later, when he buys a new car, the trade-in value of his old car is 1,500. This means 2,000 total or 667 per year is spent merely to own the vehicle. If the car is driven 10,000 miles per year, the cost per mile is 6.67 This cost is called depreciation. [Pg.279]

The change in state from liquid to solid as a material crystallizes, is driven by thermodynamics and the principle of free energy minimization, in turn this results from a trade between the total enthalpy and entropy of a system. [Pg.28]

Divergence Horizontal flow of water from a common center or zone that results in upweUing. This occurs in the open ocean at the equator and 60°S as result of surface currents driven by the Trade winds and Westerlies, respectively. [Pg.872]

The diode area was chosen based on the predicted yield and the required number of die. The p-f-n implementation reqnires 12 die per bridge or 96 for the entire system, whereas the JBS implementation reqnires 24 die per bridge or 192 for the system. The average power loss in the p-/-n implementation is estimated to be 1,344W or 0.9% of the ontpnt power, and the JBS implementation has a power loss of 1.2%. Clearly, there is a design trade-off that is being driven by the state of SiC technology. [Pg.103]

Process spectroscopy is, almost by definition, done to measure and control an industrial process. Almost all of the work is driven by business needs, such as improving profits or product quality. In competitive business environments, firms preserve every advantage possible by protecting valuable measurement systems as trade secrets. Thus, firms are often reluctant to reveal process spectroscopy applications, whether successful or not. Notable exceptions to this include the desire for positive publicity around improved safety or to direct the regulatory environment. Often, companies will patent the work and will not publish in a scientific journal until after the patent is filed, if ever. Many applications, such as the classic titanium oxide-monitoring paper, are revealed only years after implementation. As a consequence, the current state of the art in the literature is quite likely far out of date. [Pg.162]
