TIMEr

Timers are integral parts of some of the control systems. They are used in the starter of the main motor, to switch from star to delta operation. They are used in control systems, for the sequential start-up and shut-down of ancillary equipment. Timers are used for the ageing of the polymer, and the on-time of [Pg.321]

However, although run-time meters can be fitted to most motors, this is usually, if at all, only on the main motor. [Pg.322]

In order to minimize the radiation dose, the inspection time is limited to 30 seconds of exposure (programmable) after which the X-ray on/off shutter will shutter off the X-rays and the block must be unloaded. A timer will keep the operator informed of the time that has elapsed. [Pg.591]

Enclosed agitated filters are useful when volatile solvents are in use or when the solvent gives off toxic vapor or fume. Another significant advantage is that their operation does not require any manual labor. Control can be manual or automatic, usually by timers or by specific measurements of the product. Most filters are made of mild steel, with the exposed surfaces protected by lead, tile, mbber lining, or by coating or spraying with other substances as necessary. Filtration areas up to 10 m are available and the maximum cake thickness is 1 m. Apphcations are mainly in the chemical industry for the recovery of solvents. [Pg.394]

The plough cannot be allowed to reach too close to the cloth and some residual cake remains. Where this is not acceptable, the cake may be removed by a pneumatic system, by vacuum, or by reslurrying. The cycle can be automated and controlled by timers. The maximum speeds of basket centrifuges vary from 800 to 1500 rpm, and basket diameters are in the range from 10 to 1400 mm. A 1200-mm diameter, 750-mm long basket may handle as much as 200 kg of cake in one charge. [Pg.413]

A more permanent installation is provided by a chain-driven sampler, widely used in paper (qv) and steel (qv) mills, manufactured as the E Sampler by QCEC (20). A cup, which is attached to a chain positioned perpendicular to flow, travels down through the Hquid flow and returns to the upper sprocket, where the sample is drained into a container. Flow-proportional timers can be installed to change the rate of sampling with flow rate (see Flow l asurel nt). [Pg.303]

Monitoring by Electromechanical Instrumentation. According to basic engineering principles, no process can be conducted safely and effectively unless instantaneous information is available about its conditions. AH sterilizers are equipped with gauges, sensors (qv), and timers for the measurement of the various critical process parameters. More and more sterilizers are equipped with computerized control to eliminate the possibiUty of human error. However, electromechanical instmmentation is subject to random breakdowns or drifts from caUbrated settings and requires regular preventive maintenance procedures. [Pg.406]

Programmable Logic Controllers The programmable logic controller (PLC) originated as a solid-state replacement for the hardwired relay control panel and was first used in the automotive indus-tiy for discrete manufacturing control. Today, PLCs are used to implement Boolean logic functions, timers, counters, and some math functions and PID control. PLCs are often used with on/off process control valves. [Pg.775]

Simultaneously start the timer and release the crimped hose to begin cake formation. Maintain agitation during cake formation and move the leaf as may be required to ensure that sohds do not settle out in any part of the container. It is not necessary to try to simulate the velocity with which the full-scale unit s filtration surface passes through the slurry in the filter tank. [Pg.1697]

The cost of an electric-drive rotaiy-cutter sample of the smallest size manufactured—suitable for gravity sampling of fine particulate solids or shiny flow—including timer and control unit was approximately 5,000 in 1996. [Pg.1761]

The Ro-Tap is equipped to handle from 1 to 13 sieves at a time and is equipped with a timer that automatically terminates the test after any predetermined time. [Pg.1771]
