Thermoplastic acrylic coatings

Resistance and Durability Properties Development of Thermoplastic Acrylic Coatings Development of Thermosetting Acrylic Coatings Recent Trends in Acrylic Coatings... [Pg.1031]

The level of CAB used with the polymer to obtain improved performance will vary from less than 1% to 50%. In some cases, one-tenth of 1% CAB will eliminate craters and improve flow out, whereas 15-25% is required to give good solvent release from a thermoplastic acrylic coating and up to 50% butyrate on the resin may be required to obtain good performance with an oil-free polyester resin. [Pg.1069]

Coating materials may be based on short or medium-oil alkyds (e.g. primers for door and window frames) nitrocellulose or thermoplastic acrylics (e.g. lacquers for paper or furniture finishes) amino resin-alkyd coatings, with or without nitrocellulose inclusions, but with a strong acid catalyst to promote low temperature cure (furniture finishes) two-pack polyurethanes (furniture, flat boards) unsaturated polyester resins in styrene with free-radical cure initiated by peroxides (furniture) or unsaturated acrylic oligomers and monomers cured by u.v. radiation or electron beams (coatings for record sleeves paperback covers, knock-down furniture or flush interior doors). [Pg.634]

Prior to the mid-1950s, all thermoplastic acrylics were classic solution polymers prepared in suitable organic solvents. They were employed in a variety of applications, including general industrial finishes and appliance enamels and coatings for a variety of wooden, metallic, and plastic substrates. [Pg.1041]

In a thermoplastic acrylic automotive coating, a CAB is used as the pigment dispersion medium and at 15% concentration based on polymer weight provides better sprayability, increased cold crack resistance, better pigment control, better solvent release, and improved exterior durability. (See Table IX.)... [Pg.1069]

Aircraft coatings normally consist of two coats. The topcoat used for civil aircraft is a high-gloss two-pack polyurethane product, cured with aliphatic isocyanates. Single-coat systems based on thermoplastic acrylic resins have been used for military aircraft, but are being replaced by polyurethane topcoats [11.10]. [Pg.252]

DR pigments are used in paint applications where their properties are required, such as high-temperature paints and coil-coating paint systems based on fluoropoly-mers, silicone-polyester, and plastisol. The NiSbTi and CrSbTi DR pigments are used in trade sale paints including acrylic house paints, general industrial paints in polyester systems, and fleet colors in thermoset acrylic, thermoplastic acrylic, and polyurethane systems. They are also used in polyester-based powder coating applications. [Pg.64]

Thermoplastic Thermoplastic Physical drying Acrylic coatings. [Pg.33]

Commercial latexes are supplied both as thermoplastic and thermosetting types. Thermoplastic acrylic (and vinyl) latexes are very commonly used as binders for architectural paints and some specialty coatings. Such coatings are required to dry under ambient conditions without any chemical cross-linking and hence are designed to precise T and minimum film formation temperature. [Pg.89]

Several acrylic copolymers have been mentioned in the preceding sections, but generally the products described contain a preponderance of one monomer with minor amounts of other monomer(s). There also exists a large number of acrylic copolymers in which one monomer does not predominate to any great extent. Such copolymers find widespread use in surface coatings. Two distinct types of copolymers are used in surface coatings, namely thermoplastic acrylics and thermosetting acrylics and it is these materials which are the subject of this section. [Pg.140]
