Synthetic Applications. Oxazolines, which ate synthesized as indicated above, have been utilized in many different appHcations (25). When used in resin formulations, AMP, AEPD, and TRIS AMINO can incorporate the oxazoline stmeture into the polymer stmeture (26). Because they ate polyols, both AEPD and TRIS AMINO can be used in polyester resin modification. Oxazoline alkyd films ate characterized by improved performance, particularly salt-spray resistance and gloss (see Alkyd resins Coatings, special purpose, high performance). 

Although the main uses for benzoic acid are as a chemical raw material, it also has numerous direct uses. Benzoic acid is used in substantial quantities to improve the properties of various alkyd resin coating formulations, where it tends to improve gloss, adhesion, hardness, and chemical resistance. Benzoic acid terminates chain propagation in alkyd resins (qv) and promotes crystallinity in the final product.

Use Fungicide, food preservative (mold inhibitor), alkyd resin coatings, upgrading of drying oils, cold rubber additive, intermediate for plasticizers and lubricants. 

Figure 9 indicates the corrosion rate per year at different wt % loading of ZMP nanocontainers in alkyd resin coatings. At first ZMP nanocontainers were incorporated in the alkyd resin with the help of pigment Muller and formidation was coated on MS plates for study corrosion rate analysis. To a mixture of 9 gm (0.05 mole) of benzoguanamine, 60 gm (1.0 mole) of urea, and 260 gm of 37% (3.2 moles) formaldehyde is added 10% aqueous sodium carbonate to bring the pH to 8.0. Then 370 gm (5.0 moles) of Az-butanol is added, and the solution is heated to 80°C for 40 min. Fifteen grams of concentrated hydrochloric acid is added, and the mixture is heated to 93 over 30 min with removal of water. The mixture is kept at 93 for 2 hr, evaporated to 66.5% solid, and diluted with xylene to 50% resin solids. The resin (3gm) is blended with 7.0 gm of soybean oil-modified alkyd resin, coated, and baked at 130°C for 30 min to give a heat-stable coating, resistant to bending. 

Future importance as RR results from chemical intermediates that can be derived from s. by esterification, etherification as well as from polycondensation reactions. They lead to biodegradable - surfactants (- sorbitol esters of fatty acids), - alkyd resins (coatings), - polyetherpolyols (soft polyurethane foams), melamine formaldehyde resins and phenol resins. 

S. is a semi-drying oil, used as such or as fatty acid in - alkyd resins, - coatings and - putties. Technical s. fatty acids consist of 50% ->lino-leic, 25% ->oleic and some ->linolenic and sa-... 

Widespread in plants esp. in essential oils, mostly in esterified form. Obt. in 17th Century by sublimation of Styrax spp. resin. Preservative in the food industry. Used in manuf of preservatives, plasticisers, alkyd resin coatings and caprolactam. Antiseptic and expectorant.
