Column installation

A single-column installation is satisfactory if the unit can be shut down for regeneration. However, if flow of the stream being processed must be continuous, then two or more columns of the same resin must be installed in parallel. Regeneration of each is staged for different time periods. [Pg.382]

Wind loading will only be important on tall columns installed in the open. Columns and chimney-stacks are usually free standing, mounted on skirt supports, and not attached to structural steel work. Under these conditions the vessel under wind loading acts as a cantilever beam, Figure 13.19. For a uniformly loaded cantilever the bending moment at any plane is given by ... [Pg.837]

Example 2.4 The purchased cost of a new distillation column installation is 1 million. Calculate the annual cost of installed capital if the capital is to be annualized over a five-year period at a fixed rate of interest of 5%. [Pg.24]

Column. The capillary column must be correctly installed into the inlet, a procedure that is inlet and instrument dependant. In general, the column end is placed a specified distance into the inlet, beyond a fitting at the bottom end of the inlet. Each instrument vendor provides specific instructions on column installation that should be followed carefully. It is especially important to ensure that the seal between the inlet and column is leak-free and not contaminated. [Pg.463]

The first part of this experiment uses an HPLC instrument with an anion exchange column installed. Flush the flow path with the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.25 mL/min for 10 min. [Pg.483]

Analysis of biological samples requires an inline precolumn or guard column installed before the analytical column, to protect against the gradual accumulation of particulates or contaminants originating from the sample. They should be packed with a similar material as the analytical column and should be disposed of on the first indication of contamination (i.e., high back pressure or loss of resolution). [Pg.20]

With oven 2 disabled by the switching valves or by using a separate instrument with the same column installed as the precolumn above and with the same operating conditions, carry out the following preliminary runs. [Pg.1031]

In order to obtain a commercial loading of the near-critical extractant, the extraction is sometimes carried out at enhanced pressures in the droplet regime. In such cases the liquid phase does not flow downwards as a film adhering to the packings of a column as is usually assumed, rather it falls down as a swarm of droplets. On the basis of the separation of a mixture of partial glycerides the behavior of packed columns in the droplet regime (instable flowing films) the efficiency of different column installations are compared. A mixture of 55 wt.% propane and 45 wt.% carbon dioxide is used as an extractant. [Pg.194]

In several tests series the point of tracer feeding and the column installations are changed and the axial dispersion coefficient is measured as a function of superficial gas velocity. The radial rate profils are neglected. In a first approximation propane is taken incrompres-sible as the pressure loss is neglectable compared to the operating pressure of 12 MPa. [Pg.196]

Another example of electrodialysis applied to the nuclear industry [27] is the recovery of NaOH and H2SO4 from the secondary liquid waste created by the regeneration of ion-exchange columns installed in LWRs. This application has been successfully demonstrated at a plant scale facility using simulated solutions. Long-term life tests on the ion-exchange membranes indicate a shorter life for anionic membranes than cationic membranes. [Pg.838]

The separation of the sample components must be possible on the column or columns installed in the gas chromatograph. It is important to point out that every column used in a gas chromatograph is earmarked only for a specific class of compounds. As such, the column can be used to analyze only the designated class or classes of compounds. However, using most modern instruments, it possible to install more than one column to improve the analyzing capabilities of the gas chromatograph. [Pg.75]

But other column installations not strictly following the above criteria are also able to give hints about the removal efficiency for MTBE by comparing the breakthrough curves with those from known substances [50]. The order of breakthrough was shown to be the same in the lab-scale installation as in implemented full-scale activated carbon filters from waterworks. [Pg.291]

For this purpose, mainly two thermostating devices are applied air-bath thermostats and liquid thermostating using jacketed columns. In all systems, the temperature stability, adjustable temperature range and heat capacity are important considerations. For air-bath thermostats, the shape and capacity of the oven, the ease of column installation and safety aspects are additional factors. [Pg.89]

The section of column wall directly opposite a bottom feed (or reboiler return) nozzle is often prone to corrosion and erosion attacks. High inlet velocities, small column diameters, and corrosive chemicals are conducive to this problem. The author has experienced a case where metal was thinned and the colximn wall was eventually punctured opposite the bottom inlet of a 2.5-ft-diameter column. Installing an impingement plate on the wall will shield it from such corrosion and erosion attacks. [Pg.87]

The idea of working with LC/NMR at-line, instead of online, gives the possibility to trap the LC/peak of interest on a SPE column installed postcolumn by adding an additional amoimt of water in the case of typical reversed-phase separations. The SPE cartridge... [Pg.2665]

Inject 50 fxL of caraway or spearmint oil on the gas-chromatography column. Just before a component of the oil (limonene or carvone) elutes from the column, install a gas-collection tube at the exit port, as described in Technique 22, Section 22.11. To determine when to connect the gas-collection tube, refer to the chromatograms prepared by your instructor. These chromatograms have been run on the same instrument you are using under the same conditions. Ideally, you should connect the gas-collection tube just before the limonene or carvone elutes from the column and remove the tube as soon as all the component has been collected but before any other compound begins to elute from the column. You can accomplish this most easily by watching the recorder as your sample passes through the column. The collection tube is connected (if possible) just before a peak is produced or as soon as a deflection is observed. When the pen returns to the baseline, remove the gas collection tube. [Pg.137]

The second major advantage is their flexibility, cind especially the ease of column installation. Fused-silica capillary columns have virtually replaced gletss columns for this reason. [Pg.27]

The corresponding ground productivity Pg, which is defined as the biomass produced per unit time and ground required for the installation, is related to the height of bubble column, the distance between adjacent column installations (L), and the biomass concentrations at the beginning (xq) and at the end of operation (xf) [87],... [Pg.53]

To maximize the number of injections that can be made on an RFIC-ER system, an AC-ER concentrator column (16 mm X 4 mm i.d.) has been developed, which has a very low dead volume of 70 pL and an extremely low back pressure. With an AC-ER column installed in an RFIC-ER system, each injection only adds 75 pL of sample matrix into the eluent regardless of the sample volume. Therefore, approximately 266 injections can be performed before the eluent needs to be replaced. [Pg.148]
