The basis for your program plan should be your team s assessment of the current PSM status (Figure 4-11), which will have yielded a list of deficiencies compared with the required PSM elements. These gaps must now be translated into statements of required tasks, which in turn suggest work products for inclusion in your implementation plan. For example, your assessment shows that the process knowledge and documentation management system needs improvement. To address this gap you need to plan a series of tasks. [Pg.107]

Our program plan is to reevaluate the economics of the system at the end of the program. At that time, we will have improved process designs for each of the process steps in the regeneration, slurry production, hydrogen generation, and transportation. [Pg.145]

Many national programs plan to surround containers of their nuclear waste in a geologic repository, with a backfill of compacted bentonite clay (Fig. 13.33). A chief function of the clay backfill is to adsorb radionuclides and so retard their release from the engineered barrier system. Conca (1992) measured the apparent diffusion coefficient (D ) and apparent distribution coefficient (K [ml/g]) of some radionuclides in bentonite clay as a function of clay moisture content and compaction density. Measurements were made for clay densities from 0.2 to 2.0 g/cm, which correspond to porosities of 93 to 25%, respectively. With decreasing porosity, values declined by roughly 10 to 10 -fold. However, for the same porosity reduction, values were usually lowered by 10-fold and more, indicating less adsorption with compaction (Fig. 13.38). [Pg.540]

The Japanese government is especially active in promoting the use of small, 1 kW, stationary fuel cell systems. In 2005 The New Energy Foundation (NEF) announced a goal of installing 400 units with subsidies of up to 6 million yen per unit (60-75% of the total cost). In 2006 and 2007, the program plans to install 1000 and 5000 units, respectively, with NEF subsidies of up to 3 million yen in 2006 and 2 million yen in 2007. Costs were expected to fall below 1 million yen by the end of the 3-year program. Initially, seven Japanese corporations, mostly utUity companies, were slated to receive the subsidies with fuel cells provided by Ebara Ballard and Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems (Adamson 2005). [Pg.138]

Before the system is actually used in the field by its customers, it is very important to develop all the service and maintenance instructions, which are well documented. Just like reliability, maintainability is considered throughout the life cycle, and its purpose is to sustain required levels of reliability and availability in the field. Maintainability program plans are developed at the planning step. [Pg.1925]

During program and project planning, a system safety plan, standards, and project development safety control structure need to be designed including policies, procedures, the safety management and control structure, and communication channels. System Safety 2000 by Joe Stephenson. This book begins with a history of and the fundamentals of system safety. Then, the author moves into system safety program planning and management, along with system safety analysis techniques. About half of the book is devoted to those techniques. A safety generalist would find it a good and not too difficult read. [Pg.335]

Initial startup testing procedures have been prepared and implemented to demonstrate that structures, systems, and components (SSCs) and processes will perform as intended. Initial testing includes, as appropriate, bench tests and proof tests prior to installation, mockup tests, pre-operational tests, post-maintenance tests, post-modification tests, and operational startup tests. Safety-related items are subject to the quality-assurance requirements of SNL/NM Research Reactor and Experimental Programs (RREP) Quality Assurance Program Plan (SNL 1998a), as implemented by the facility Project/Experiment Quality Plan (PEQP). Testing inciudes those initial tests mandated by applicable Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) surveiilance requirements (see Chapter 5.0, "Derivation of Technical Safety Requirements") and Operational Readiness Review (ORR) requirements (see DOE O 425.1 and DOE-STD-3006-93). [Pg.280]
