Study Strategy

You may be tempted to skip ahead to Chapter 3 to dive into the practice sections. Don t do it—the study strategies explained in this section are absolutely necessary to understand prior to moving ahead. 

You have this book, which will give you a solid foundation of knowledge about the GRE. You may also want to use GRE Practicing to Take the General Test, the best source for retired GRE questions. You will also want to assemble some other study tools and dedicate them to your GRE preparations, such as  

Have fun selecting your tools. Buy the type of pens you like the most. Select your favorite colors. You want to look forward to your time with these materials. They can be a little reward for doing your work. Even the feel of a special pen in your hand will give you a motivational boost when you sit down to work. 

You are already working on this step. Remember that the GRE is given throughout the year, not only on a few test dates. You can go online to www.GRE.org to obtain a copy of the official GRE Registration Bulletin. You can look at the Bulletin online or order a copy. Subsequent sections of this book will discuss these questions in detail and offer study tips and strategies for answering them correctly. Seek out that information right away—you will need it as you set up your study plan.

Alternative Processes. Because of the large quantity of phosphate rock reserves available worldwide, recovery of the fluoride values from this raw material source has frequently been studied. Bond et al. [791 ] studied strategies for trace metal determination in seawater by ASV using a computerised multi-time domain measurement method. A microcomputer-based system allowed the reliability of the determination of trace amounts of metals to be estimated. Peak height, width, and potential were measured as a function of time and concentration to construct the database. Measurements were made with a potentiostat polarographic analyser connected to the microcomputer and a hanging drop mercury electrode. The presence of surfactants, which presented a matrix problem, was detected via time domain dependent results and nonlinearity of the calibration. A decision to pretreat the samples could then be made. In the presence of surfactants, neither a direct calibration mode nor a linear standard addition method yielded precise data. Alternative ways to eliminate the interferences based either on theoretical considerations or destruction of the matrix needed to be considered.

To study effectively, you need to focus all your attention on the material, so the preparation time you have must be quality time. This section of the book will help you determine which study strategies are right for you. It also will provide you with techniques for overcoming the two most common roadblocks to successful studying anxiety and distraction. 

For the present case study (Strategy WGS 1), seven generations of 72 catalytic materials each have been prepared and tested. CO conversion at standard conditions for the ten best compositions of each generation is shown in Fig. 10.7.

All of these contribute to the uncertainty of the spiking process, and to the extent that they are unknown or uncontrolled, may break the traceability chain. When planning proficiency studies, strategies for maintaining the links in the traceability chain must be considered. 

The final strategy, the special study strategy, is used by some sponsoring companies to place single or a few nonclinical research studies with a CRO. The variation of the principal properties in a set of compounds is quantified by the score values. This variation can be displayed by plotting the scores of different components against each other. Such score plots are very useful for selecting test compounds for experimental studies. Strategies for the selection of test system based upon principal properties are discussed in Sect. 4.6.

Stage I—feasibility. This stage terminates with a go/no-go decision for the project. It includes a formulation of the project, feasibility studies, strategy design, and strategy approval for the project.
