Although C.v. Girsewald patented the use of HMDT as a primary explosive for detonators, its sensitivity to heat, friction and impact, its incompatibility with metals and its poor storage qualities make it unsuitable for practical use (Ref 16)... 

Essentially, a food additive brings some benefit to the consumer and is not used to disguise faulty food processing or handling techniques. A food additive does not substantially reduce the nutritive value of the food and does not pose any health hazard to the consumer. Thus, food additives should be used for the preservation of food, to maintain its nutritive quality and storage quality, and for organoleptic acceptance by the consumer.

It is the task of the food and beverage industry to provide the customer with a tasty and healthy product whose nutritive value and storage quality are well defined. Another good point about nitroglycol is that it has better storage qualities than nitro does. Nitroglycol is much better able to withstand a sloppy purification job. This is because traces of acid left in the product will not bring nitroglycol to as rapid a ruin as nitro. This should not be interpreted as an endorsement of sloppy purification methods. It just means that with nitroglycol, there is more room for error.

Solid residues with final storage quality should have properties very similar to the Earths crust (natural sediments, rocks, ores, soil). This can be achieved in several ways, for example by assortment or thermal, chemical and biological treatment. In most cases, this standard is not attained by simple incineration of municipal solid waste - that is, by only the reduction of organic fractions. There is, in particular, the problem of easily soluble minerals such as sodium chloride. Future efforts should be aimed at optimizing the incineration process in a sense that critical components are concentrated in the filter ash and in the washing sludge, whereas the quality of the bottom ash is improved in such a way that deposition is facilitated and even reuse of this material is possible due to either the low concentrations or chemically inert bonding forms of metals. 

It should also be able to record executed activities in maintenance, storage, quality control, distribution and other specific matter linked to GMP. 

A formal hazard analysis of the anticipated operations was conducted using Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) techniques to evaluate potential hazards associated with processing operations, waste handling and storage, quality control activities, and maintenance. This process included the identification of various features to control or mitigate the identified hazards. Based on the hazard analysis, a more limited set of accident scenarios was selected for quantitative evaiuation, which bound the risks to the public. These scenarios included radioactive material spills and fires and considered the effects of equipment failure, human error, and the potential effects of natural phenomena and other external events. The hazard analysis process led to the selection of eight design basis accidents (DBA s), which are summarized in Table E.4-1. 

Urea can be prilled, granulated, flaked, and crystallized. At the present time only prilling and granulation can be considered important. Most new plants that plan to ship internationally utilize granule on because of its far superior handling and storage qualities. Comparative product characteristics are shown in Table 9.3. 

Furthermore, if suitable criteria are applied to metal concentrations in the pHstat eluate, the final storage quality of organic-free waste material can be evaluated (Himer and Forstner 1993). 

The final storage approach is one way to develop and control landfills on a conceptual basis. It has been defined by the Swiss Federal Government in 1986 (Anonymous 1986b) and received wider attention by the book edited by Peter Baccini on Landfills - Reactor and Final Storage (Baccini 1989) "Landfills with solids of final storage quality need no further treatment of emissions into air and water".
