A selection of applications is presented in the following subsections solar cells, TFTs, light sensors (visible, IR, X-ray), and chemical sensors. Also, light-emitting devices, in particular utilizing erbium incorporation in a-Si H, are presented. Finally, electrostatic loudspeakers in which an a-Si H film is incorporated are described. Details of various applications described here, as well as many other applications, can be found in the excellent edited books [4, 5, 11,13, 574]. [Pg.169]

A closer survey revealed that in the period elapsed since 1984 an average of 400 publications on allenes have appeared each year, amounting to close to 8000 in total. This made it obvious that one mortal author could not cover the whole field alone. As a consequence, Norbert Krause, both a renowned expert in allene chemistry and experienced in editing books, was commissioned as an additional editor. The crucial part then was to identify those fields of allene chemistry displaying the new and significant developments since 1984. We decided to divide the project into four parts, Synthesis of Allenes , Special Classes of Allenes , Reactions of Allenes , and Applications . [Pg.10]

Dr. Zhang holds several adjunct professorships, including one at the University of Waterloo and one at the University of British Columbia. His research is mainly based on fuel cell catalysis development. He has coauthored more than 200 publications, including 150 refereed journal papers and three edited books. Fie also holds over 10 US. patents and patent publications. Dr. Zhang is an active member of the Electrochemical Society, the International Society of Electrochemistry, and the American Chemical Society. [Pg.461]

Any edited book strongly depends on the quality of every single contribution. It was both my privilege and honor to win such well-known authors. With their contributions, I am convinced that we have now a book in hand that represents the state of the art and a comprehensive summary on the present status quo. It is designed to attract equally students and advanced readers working in the areas of organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, polymer science, physical... [Pg.578]

Finally, I would Hke to thank all authors for their time and effort to make a state-of-the-art overview of surface-initiated polymerization possible. An edited book is only as good as its contributions and I had the privilege to compile contributions of the highest quality. [Pg.225]

This neglect of the learner s part in reflection is, however, beginning to be remedied. David Boud and colleagues in their own contribution to their edited book. Reflection Turning Experierxce into Learning (1985), have set out what I believe to be the first attempt at a comprehensive description of the reflective process in experiential learning. They note that ... [Pg.242]

The purpose of this edited book is to assimilate contributions from a variety of senior scientists in the field of polymer nanotube composites technology to shed light on the recent advances in these commercially important areas of polymer technology. [Pg.299]

The chapters in this book have been prepared by those personally skilled in the various areas they have developed. Professor Grob has welded these chapters together into a cohesive treatment, but the individuality of each expert remains so that the reader is able to sample the unique experiences and insights of the writer. It is fortunate that the many contributors to an edited book live and work in the same area and are members of the same organization. Thus, the ability to easily communicate and exchange ideas, develop formats, and closely interact, has resulted in an edited book with unusual coverage and readability. ... [Pg.663]

An asterisk denotes joint supervision of graduate work. The numbers refer to the enumeration in the Bibliography. The lowercase letters refer to the Edited Books section of the Bibliography. Those listed under my own name are those for which I am solely responsible, with the exception of 132, whose author is, or rather was, Aris Rutherford. [Pg.467]

A list of previous books and reviews on block copolymers is given in the bibliography. There have been no authored books in the field since the volume by Noshay and McGrath in 1977, and this was primarily concerned with the chemistry and materials science. Most of the literature consists of outdated edited books, although a number of review articles have appeared recently. The field has advanced rapidly during the last two decades, with major new theoretical developments, discoveries of new morphologies and the initiation of research in new fields such as thin films, crystalline solids and gels in concentrated solutions. It is thus hoped that this book is timely and fulfils the need for an up-to-date summary of the fundamental physics of block copolymers. [Pg.1]

So let s start with the obvious. This book on electrodeposition from ionic liquids comes on the tail of another excellent Wiley book, edited in 2005 by Hiroyuki Ohno, entitled Electrochemical Aspects of Ionic Liquids , an updated revision of a 2003 Japanese volume with the title Ionic Liquids The Front and Future of Material Development (CMC Press, Tokyo). Is there any overlap Well, in the thirty-two chapters of this earlier edited book, which covers the whole spectrum of electrochemistry in ionic liquids, there were only twenty pages devoted to the topic of electrodeposition (an article by Yasushi Katayama). So, there is no significant overlap to worry about. [Pg.399]

To summarise then, this book is timely and edited by three of the four main experts in the field. It is planned with meticulous detail, and - of paramount importance - it is authoritative. It is inconceivable that any researcher in the future will not need access to this book, and it will be extensively cited. I congratulate Frank, Doug and Andy on a wonderful volume. Editing books of this type is a service to the community (no one does it for the royalties ), and we owe them a debt of gratitude for the huge investment of time they have made. [Pg.400]

There are several books on pattern recognition and multivariate analysis. An introduction to several of the main techniques is provided in an edited book [19]. For more statistical in-depth descriptions of principal components analysis, books by Joliffe [20] and Mardia and co-authors [21] should be read. An early but still valuable book by Massart and Kaufmann covers more than just its title theme cluster analysis [22] and provides clear introductory material. [Pg.11]

Science in 2004 that have been dedicated to Complex Systems and Multi-scale Methodology, the forth issue of the 29th volume in Computers in Chemical Engineering on Multiscale Simulation published in 2005, the Springer-Verlag IMA edited book on Dispersive Transport Equations and Multiscale Models resulting from a related workshop, numerous workshops, and a topical conference on Multiscale Analysis in the 2005 AIChE meeting, just to mention a few. [Pg.6]

Krishnan Rajeshwar is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Associate Dean in the College of Science at the University of Texas at Arlington. He is the author of over 450 refereed publications, several invited reviews, book chapters, a monograph, and has edited books, special issues of journals, and conference proceedings in the areas of materials chemistry, solar energy conversion, and environmental electrochemistry. Dr. Rajeshwar is the Editor of the Electrochemical Society Interface magazine and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Applied Electrochemistry. Dr. Rajeshwar has won many Society and University awards and is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society. [Pg.2]

J. Cowley ed., Electron Diffraction Techniques , Oxford/lUCr Press, 1993. Vols 1 and 2. An edited book with contributions from practioners of the field. [Pg.6045]

Few comprehensive reviews of the origin and properties of chondritic components have appeared since Kerridge and Matthews (1988). Exceptions include a comprehensive review of chondrite mineralogy (B J, 1998), an edited book on chondrules and their origins (Hewins et al, 1996), and several reviews on chondrules and CAIs (Hewins, 1997 Rubin, 2000 Jones et al., 2000a Ireland and Fegley, 2000). [Pg.157]
