Storage area network

A storage-area network (SAN) is defined as a specialized, dedicated highspeed network whose primary purpose is the transfer of data between and among computer systems and storage elements. Fibre Chaimel is the de facto SAN standard network protocol, although other network standards, like iSCSI, could be used. Once the need for a network has been determined, the locations of terminals, servers, and information storage equipment must be established.
