Graphics devices

The histogram is a graphical device which is both attainable in practice and also an approximation to a theoretical distribution function. 

The AGRAPH command is similar to the GRAPH command except the output is produced on the alternative graphics device. 

External code may be used to obtain input (e.g., from data bases, instrumentation, numerical data base routines, other computers), to send output (to data bases, printers, graphic devices), or to perform actions when decisions are reached (e.g., instrument control). The use of this extra parameter proved to give some disadvantages it caused extra calculatory work and it obscured the comparison of the increments of the functional groups. In the fourh and present edition we have abandoned the use of Ix. Instead of it the use of a tabular or graphical device must be preferred (Table 6.9 or Fig. 6.5).
