Specification maintenance

The mechanical performance of equipment is likely to deteriorate with use due to wear, corrosion, erosion, vibration, contamination and fracture, which may lead to failure. Since this would threaten a typical production objective of meeting quality and quantity specifications, maintenance engineering provide a service which helps to safely achieve the production objective. [Pg.286]

Appendix III of this report provides a detailed description of the reliability data used in event tree and fault tree quantification. Because of its extensive operating experience and the uniqueness of the BRP design, BRP plant-specific data was used whenever possible. Plant-specific data sources included plant maintenance orders, control room log books, surveillance tests, LERs, event reports, deviation reports, plant review committee meeting minutes, and USNRC correspondence. The plant-specific data used spanned the period from 1970 to 1979. Data before 1970 did not include maintenance orders or surveillance tests and therefore were excluded. The plant-specific data collected for BRP is presented in detail in Appendix XIII. Table III-4 summarizes 30 plant-specific component failure rates and Table 11-06 contains plant-specific maintenance unavailabilities for 20 components. These tables are a summary of the BRP component failure and maintenance outages. [Pg.117]

Unlike the two trending techniques, signature analysis provides visual representation of each frequency component generated by a machine-train. With training, plant staff can use vibration signatures to determine the specific maintenance required by plant machinery. [Pg.798]

Most pharmaceutical and healthcare companies will split the roles mentioned above into several specific jobs as appropriate to their organizational structures. For instance, the Quality and Compliance role may be split into an Operations Quality Representative and a Validation Expert. Equally, the Developer role may consist of Project Manager, Project Engineers, and Supplier Representative. Similarly, System Owners may sometimes delegate responsibilities such as specific maintenance activities to a system administrator function that may be internal or external to the company. The Quality and Compliance role, however, must not be combined with other roles otherwise its independence will be compromised. [Pg.64]

Pyrolysis oil input rate is assumed to be over 5000 kW with an electrical efficiency of 38 % and a thermal efficiency of 45 %. The specific maintenance cost are estimated to be 2 [ /kWu, a], consumption related operation cost 19 /MWh. [Pg.861]

Specific maintenance mechanisms ensure that the inactive X chromosome is clonally transmitted and that it remains inactive in subsequent cell divisions. Methylation of CpG islands at the beginning of genes in the inactive X chromosome appears to play an important role in suppressing gene expression the corresponding CpG islands in the active X chromosome are usually unmethylated. [Pg.605]

Step 4 combines diagnosis and condition indicator status levels and generates an overall risk of failure indication. Typically the worst case condition indicator severity is used to indicate the fluid condition status. Since the diagnosis will relate to a specific maintenance or inspection instruction, this procedure requires a search of the user s maintenance database for previous and scheduled work. Once the maintenance data are known, the fault diagnosis reports the appropriate maintenance response from the users troubleshooting instructions. [Pg.491]

This section deals mainly with the external departments that have an influence on the line services and their operation, e.g. specifications, maintenance, planning, inventory control, testing off-line and QA/QC support. Additional work in this area will try to gain further insights into properties of specific maintenance changes and how these changes effect the evolution of software applications. From this it is hoped that other insights into appropriate strategies for maintenance providers will emerge. [Pg.316]

It may be impracticable or impossible to decontaminate some plant items sufficiently to allow them to be maintained in the workshops for clean items. Special facilities should be provided for the maintenance of contaminated items, in order to keep radiation doses to individuals as low as reasonably achievable and to prevent the spread of contamination. This may be accomplished by providing specific maintenance facilities for particular plant items and by providing workshops, located within the controlled area, for work on radioactive parts brought to them. Dedicated tool stores may also be appropriate their use should be controlled. [Pg.36]

Each maintenance stop cost is considered as a combination of a fixed set-up cost S and a specific maintenance cost cr,. The fixed set-up cost S represents the downtime cost and includes the production loss during maintenance operation. The cost S is independent on the considered component i. The specific cost cTj of component i depends on the time-to-failure... [Pg.542]

The requirement that equipment should be tested and proven to be fit for purpose is effectively fulfilled by an approach known as equipment qualification (EQ), which is well established and proven in the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry. EQ is complementary to method validation for the spectrophotometer and is built on effective instrumental calibration validation (see below). EQ is a systematic procedure, which ensmes that suitable equipment is purchased and that it remains fit for its chosen purpose throughout its operating life. The same requirement is present in ISO/IEC 17025, where section 5.5.5 Records of Equipment requires checks to ensure compliance with the specification, maintenance plans, etc. [Pg.3997]

Beyond the above computation, and with the help of a Monte Carlo simulation (see, also, Section 3), the degree to which the individual component contributes to a system failure was determined. The above method also permits taking into account specific maintenance strategies. The life histories of the individual components are created over a period of time from 5 x 10 h and thereby it is also determined whether the system failure can be traced to corresponding component failures at any specific point in time. Here the failure-prone components are recorded in connection with each individual failure. Results demonstrate that position transmission (2) is involved in 100% of all system failures, which is natural because of the system s logical structure (Figure 5.23). The mechanical system of the valve is involved in 12%, the hydraulic control element in 29%, and the control pulse in 59% of all cases of system failure. [Pg.144]
