Speaker panels

This chapter discussion is not a verbatim listing in order of comment. Quotes of speakers, panel members or not, are placed in an order designed for clarity to the reader. There are three major sections 1. Analysts in their own work, 2. Analysts in the educational process, and 3 Analysts in the political/social scene.

What the Panel Member Does not Need to Know. It is generally conceded that your scientific project is very important. A lengthy introduction intended to convince the panel by giving information that is not closely related to the experiment is exhausting, in particular if it tills half of the proposal form. The panel member gets annoyed, if by this procedure important information has been squeezed out. The panel member who is the speaker will probably have to retrieve the missing information from the Internet. The panel member becomes more annoyed if this happens for several proposals in succession. The panel member is happy if he reads a clear and concise proposal. 

What the Panel Member Must Know. Do not write more than 10 lines on the impact of the expected results. Only one of the speakers is an expert in your field. Address the interested lay-person Are the expected results of general public interest so that they can advertise the research facility in the public press This is a strong argument to the panel. 

Each session was initiated by state-of-the-art reviews, summarizing both the theoretical and applied aspects of the subject these were followed by invited technical papers. A panel discussion among speakers/coauthors, including audience participation, concluded each session. This volume contains only the technical papers of the conference the questions and answers for the papers will be printed as a separate publication.

A panel discussion of symposium speakers with audience participation was held to discuss means and methods of instituting chemometric (statistical, computer) methods into general use in analytical problems. Discussion centered around three topics analysts in their own work, analysts in the educational process, and analysts in the political and social scene. 

A panel of all of the speakers in the symposium was set up at its conclusion to discuss the subject, "Advice to Analytical Chemists for the utilization of chemometric techniques in analysis. The problem as we saw it, is that we have to overcome this fear of statistics and especially of this word chemometrics. e have to learn what it means, how to understand it, and how to use it. 

In the next portion of the workshop, speakers and panel members focused on effective green chemistry and engineering educational programs, materials, and teaching tools, including computer software. The session started with talks by four main speakers, followed by four panel speakers. 

In order to address these important issues the panel of speakers in this session gathered a group of distinguished representatives of varied organisations involved in such analyses industry (Entergy, AREVA), national laboratories (FZJ, DOE/INL-ANL, CEA) and universities (Stanford, MIT, TIT). 

The most common ties among DSM panel members were through research funding (42%), consultancies (22%), and speakers bureaus (16%). This puts these professionals in much more intimate connection with their patron drug companies than merely accepting free lunches for the office staff or a free seminar. 

The unique and important schedule was the panel discussion in this session, and summary of each session Wcis conducted by distinguished persons moreover, from more than ten countries, the representative speakers presented the status and fjerspectives of chemical approaches of CO2 reduction in each country.

In a further effort to characterize the leading chemists in the world, the panel asked experts from the United States and abroad to identify the best of the best whom they would invite to an international conference in their subfield. The national makeup of these virtual congresses provides another indicator of U.S. leadership in chemistry by the strong predominance of U.S. speakers (50-70 percent) selected for virtual world congresses. (Caveat When the organizer of the virtual congress was a U.S. chemist, about 15 percent more of the speakers were from the United States than when the organizer was not from the United States.)... 

To determine the overall position of U.S. research in chemistry relative to research performed in other regions or countries, the panel analyzed journals (paper authorship, most highly cited articles, most accessed articles, and hot papers), international congress speakers, and prizes. Most of these measures have previously been used to assess quality of science however, in addition, the panel used virtual congress evaluations to determine the leadership groups within each subarea. The limitations of each individual measure were recognized, and therefore, the panel analyzed the collective results of all of the indicators to draw conclusions regarding relative research competitiveness. 

In another attempt to identify the world s leading chemists, the panel examined the lists of invited speakers at real (not imaginary) international chemistry meetings. The percentage of speakers from different countries... 

Appendix D lists the international congresses considered by the panel and the relative frequency of U.S. and non-U.S. chemists as invited plenary speakers. 

Gordon conference speakers are chosen from the leaders in a given sub-area, and counting them should be an excellent benchmark of a country s status in the international arena. Sixty-eight percent of the 890 speakers at the 34 GRCs were from the United States. The composition of the five non-U.S. GRCs analyzed by the panel is shown in Figure 3-21. 

I am placing myself squarely on the premises set forth by the preceding speakers and the House Committee report. I feel justified in doing this because of some earlier associations with the issues we are considering, which at the same time explain my inclusion on this program. Using a computer projection panel combined with an overhead projector eliminates the need to create transparencies or worry about picking up the wrong one while speaking. A press of a button on the computer mouse can kev the appropriate image during a presentation. A speaker can commit an entire visual presentation to a computer disk and revise it for later presentations.

Electronic applications include scroll wheel, printer roller, scanner lid, grip, access panel door, speaker surrounds, and holders and bumpers. Also, TPVs are widely used in business machines, power tools, motor mounts, and many other fields.
