Windshield wipers

Small ultrasonic motors such as the rotary actuator shown in Figure 10 have also been made and can be used for automobile windows, seats, and windshield wipers. Many small industrial motors could make use of the high torque, low speed, and precise stepping character of these actuators. [Pg.208]

Electric motors are eveiywhere. These ubiquitous devices come in a wide variety of sizes and power outputs, ranging from a fraction of a watt to huge multikilowatt applications. Tiny ones operate computer disk drives, power windows/mirrors, and windshield wipers moderate-sized ones run appliances such as fans, blenders, electric shavers, and vacuum cleaners a large drive pumps, elevators, sawmills, and electric trains and vehicles. [Pg.400]

We use variants of profile extrusion to produce tubing -with diameters of less then 1 mm and pipes with diameters exceeding 1 m, Wall thicknesses can vary from a few tens of micrometers up to several centimeters. Extruded window and door frames are more complex than pipes. Such profiles are largely hollow with internal ribs and fins that reinforce and divide the interior into two or more channels. We use solid rubber profiles in applications such as door seals and windshield wipers. We can produce foamed extrudates by incorporating a blowing agent, such as butane or carbon dioxide, into the polymer in the molten state. As the polymer exits the die, its internal pressure drops and the dissolved gas expands to form bubbles within the product. Examples of foamed extrudates include pipe insulation and automobile door gaskets. [Pg.218]

A thinner and more uniform slice of the surface can be collected with the Harvey [11] rotating drum sampler. This consists of a floating drum which is rotated by an electric motor, the film adhering to the drum being removed by a windshield wiper blade. The thickness of the layer sampled depends... [Pg.23]

One example is the set of dynamic processes going on in Ru2(CO)6(fi2-PPh2)(/X2- -C=C-i-Pr). The molecule (fig. 6) is asymmetric in the absence of any dynamics, but near 300 K the alkyne flips back and forth ( windshield wiper motion ) quickly, so that the carbonyls on either side are equivalent. Each carbonyl is coupled to phosphorus, so if the carbonyls do not scramble amongst themselves, there are six lines in the carbonyl... [Pg.247]

This Mulheim chemistry has been highlighted by the discovery of the highly enantioselective hydrovinylation of styrene to produce chiral 2-phenyl-1-butene in 95.2% ee for a 10 kg-scale reaction (Scheme 60) (132). The Ni catalyst is very reactive and contains the unique chiral dimeric aminophosphine ligand derived from (R)-myrtenal and (S)-1-phenylethylamine. Computer simulations suggest that in this chiral Ni complex, the phenyl substituent of the chiral phenylethyl group acts as a windshield wiper across the catalytically active metal center. This... [Pg.95]

The complexes of type 153 show temperature-dependent carbonyl signals in their 13C-NMR spectra due to hindered movements of the /i-f/2 1-dienyl ligands. This movement can be described as a windshield wiper type oscillation, by which the a and n bonds are interchanged between the two rhenium atoms. For octacarbonyl-fi-ri2 1 -1,3,5-cycloheptatrien-2-yl-/i-hydridodirhe-nium (162) and for octacarbonyl-/ - /2 1 -1,3,5-cycloheptatrien-1 -yl- -hydri-dodirhenium (162 ) activation barriers of AG255 = 48.0 2 kJ/mol and AG207 = 39.9 2 kJ/mol (218) have been determined. [Pg.367]

Many polymers are specifically designed not to degrade in the environment—outdoor signs, deck furniture, boats, automobile bumpers, tires, windshield wipers, and outdoor carpeting to name a few. [Pg.182]

Some nitrogen dioxide was mixed with phosgene to make the clouds visible, so we wanted time lapse photos. I rigged up a windshield wiper with a t riable voltage rheostat source from a battery. This was used to trip a movie camera at voltage dependent intend. We t some good pictures that way. [Pg.74]
