Metal sheet coating

Rapid deformations are produced in impact tests (falling weight tests). A metal sheet coated on one side is deformed by a falling weight that has a hemispherical indentor. Deformation occurs directly or indirectly, i.e., the coated or the uncoated side of the sample is struck by the falling body and deformed (ISO6272). [Pg.230]

There are many applications in which it is necessary to put a plastic coating on to paper or metal sheets and the extruder provides an ideal way of doing this. Normally a thin film of plastic is extruded from a slit die and is immediately brought into contact with the medium to be coated. The composite is then passed between rollers to ensure proper adhesion at the interface and to control the thickness of the coating (see Fig. 4.26). [Pg.273]

Many finishes exhibit low maintenance requirements (e.g. plasticzed metallic sheeting, epoxy coatings, continuous tiling systems, etc.). Others may be more maintenance intensive and may provide lower durability. However, selection must also consider the other operating parameters such as acoustic performance (which may mandate heavier mass or more porous-surfaced materials) or load-bearing capabilities, etc. [Pg.62]

The most recently developed anode for the cathodic protection of steel in concrete is mixed metal oxide coated titanium mesh The anode mesh is made from commercially pure titanium sheet approximately 0-5-2mm thick depending upon the manufacturer, expanded to provide a diamond shaped mesh in the range of 35 x 75 to 100 x 200 mm. The mesh size selected is dictated by the required cathode current density and the mesh manufacturer. The anode mesh is supplied in strips which may be joined on site using spot welded connections to a titanium strip or niobium crimps, whilst electrical connections to the d.c. power source are made at selected locations in a suitably encapsulated or crimped connection. The mesh is then fitted to the concrete using non-metallic fixings. [Pg.191]

Tin-lead can be substituted for tin for other purposes, although the toxicity of lead limits the field of application. The corrosion resistance is usually no better than that of unalloyed tin, but there may be some saving of cost in applications such as wash-boilers and other vessels for non-potable liquids and light engineering components formed from sheet metal. Heavily coated terne-plates may be used for the fuel tanks of stoves and vehicles. [Pg.510]

ITottinen et al. [44,45] used htanium sintered meshes as DEs on the cathode side of a PEMEC because the porosity of these metal sheets does not reduce when in compression. It was demonstrated that in order ter the cell to achieve the required performance, the sintered meshes had to be coated with platinum. However, the results showed that a cell with CEP (SIGRACET GDEIO-BB) as the DE shll performed slightly better (especially at high current densities) than the cell with the Pt-coated sintered Ti mesh. Cisar et al. [46 presented another example in which a DE consisting of sintered metal fibers was used on the cathode side of a PEMEC. Once put together, these fibers were rmified or bonded to the EE plate (made out of metal) in order to combine the two components into one. [Pg.213]

UV curable coatings are applied to a variety of flat, rigid substrates, such as particle board, medium- and high-density fiberboard, wood veneers, polycarbonate, poly(methylmethacrylate), paper, and metal sheets and foils. An example of a formulation for UV curable coatings is in Table 7.1. [Pg.143]

The inherent properties of the fire-resistant mastic may be exploited for many other applications. On the basis of low thermal conductivity, the mastic forms a suitable coating on metal sheet buildings which prevents condensation, reduces noise coefficient, and retards radiated heat. Another property which is sometimes important is that the mastic does not support mildew. For this and other reasons, the mastic has been applied on the interior of concrete storage granaries to prevent the grain from mildewing in the area adjacent to the concrete walls. [Pg.91]

A typical example of semi-quantitative analysis of an organic coating on a metal surface is shown in Fig. 7.6. A matted metal sheet is industrially spray-coated with a colourless two-component coating. The task was to determine not only the coverage, something that could also be achieved by using reflectance sensors, but also whether the mixing ratio is within the specification. [Pg.170]

Cake rounds are pieces of cardboard that are coated on one side with a grease-resistant white or metallic sheet. They re handy support bases for transporting cakes and essential if you re tiering a cake (page 242)- While decorating, I typically use the cake round as the base, and then transfer the cake, with the cake round, onto a cake stand (a cake stand won t always fit in the refrigerator ). Look for cake rounds at any cake-supply store or order them online. They come in a range of sizes I prefer to use 8- or 9-inch rounds. In a pinch, you can use the bottom of a two-part tart pan. [Pg.250]

The total automotive coating composite, however, consists of more than just the basecoat/clear-coat. The metal sheet stock that is formed into the automotive car body is treated with a corrosion-resistant primer applied by cathodic electrophoresis. This coating, often referred to as ECOAT or uni-prime is a hydroxy functional epoxy/ blocked isocyanate dispersion that deposits onto the cathode of an electrolytic cell at a voltage of between 250 and 425 V. Film thickness, which is dependent upon the residence time, temperature, and coating voltage of the electro-coat bath (electrolytic cell), varies between 0.8 and 1.2 mils (1 mil = 25 xm). The curing temperature required to deblock the isocyanate and yield a cross-... [Pg.1301]

The corrosion resistance of a coated metal sheet could be considered to be dependent on at least five factors [1-4]. These factors are as follows ... [Pg.578]

The change in Bode plot as a function of immersion time for a Parylene C-coated metal sheet is greatly influenced by the nature of the top surface (solution/coating interface). [Pg.592]

Use In reference to surface coatings, metal sheet, films, cable covers, friction tape, etc. [Pg.849]

Photochemical initiators are utilized for the production of lithographic plates and for radiation curing coatings and inks but not in the manufacture of plastics. Electrolytic polymerizations find apphcations in the coating of metal sheets by plastics. [Pg.119]

The substrate was composed of a metal sheet and insulating layers which was coated on the both side of the metal sheet to be prevented fi om warping. Al-doped ferritic stainless steel (0.2 mm in thickness) was selected for the metal sheet. Because the value of liner thermal expansion coefficient of it (1.0 X10 K ) was in good agreement with that of iron silicide... [Pg.633]

MATERIALS. The polyimide used in this study, PI-2555 and PIQ-13 (polyimide isoindoloquinazolinedione) were obtained from duPont and Hitachi, respectively. PIQ coupler, an aluminum chelate primer, was also obtained from Hitachi. The primer and polyimides were applied by spin coating. Test substrates included metallized glass slides, metal sheet, and 3-inch diameter silicon wafers. [Pg.170]

Obviously drawing puts a severe strain on the metal sheet, and the amount of distortion which can be tolerated depends on the thickness of the metal and the ability of the surface finish, e.g. tinplate coating or decoration, to adhere firmly to the base metal. The containers produced by drawing are relatively shallow with a maximum depth up to half the diameter if circular. Metal screw caps and aluminium roll-on cap shells are also produced by the same process. [Pg.292]
