Health and Safety. Protective clothing that is compatible with the remover formula must be worn. Caustic soda baths should be ventilated to remove vapors from the work area. Most caustic removers are corrosive and cause severe bums with minimal contact to the skin. Canister respirators that are compatible with the remover should be worn. [Pg.553]

The manufacturing cost consists of direct, indirect, distribution, and fixed costs. Direct costs are raw materials, operating labor, production supervision, utihties, suppHes, repair, and maintenance. Typical indirect costs include payroll overhead, quaHty control, storage, royalties, and plant overhead, eg, safety, protection, personnel, services, yard, waste, environmental control, and other plant categories. However, environmental control costs are frequendy set up as a separate account and calculated direcdy. The principal distribution costs are packaging and shipping. Fixed costs, which are insensitive to production level, include depreciation, property taxes, rents, insurance, and, in some cases, interest expense. [Pg.444]

As microprocessor-based controls displaced hardwired electronic and pneumatic controls, the impac t on plant safety has definitely been positive. When automated procedures replace manual procedures for routine operations, the probability of human errors leading to hazardous situations is lowered. The enhanced capability for presenting information to the process operators in a timely manner and in the most meaningful form increases the operator s awareness of the current conditions in the process. Process operators are expected to exercise due diligence in the supervision of the process, and timely recognition of an abnormal situation reduces the likelihood that the situation will progress to the hazardous state. Figure 8-88 depicts the layers of safety protection in a typical chemical jdant. [Pg.795]

Handling provisions serve two purposes, both related to safety protection of the product from the individual and protection of the individual handling the product. By referring back to clause 4.15.1 it would appear that element 4.15 of the standard is only concerned with safety of the product and not the individual however, the two cannot and should not be separated and handling procedures should address both aspects. [Pg.475]

An alternate approach to the above is to provide parallel relief valve-rupture disc systems. The valve will have a setting slightly above the normal operating pressure with the rupture disc at about a 10% higher setting. The relief valve should control minor pressure excursions, can vent material and then reseat to minimize process losses. The rupture disc would provide the ultimate safety protection. [Pg.329]

Safety Protective gloves Mandatory wear butyl toxicological agent protective gloves (M3, M4, gloveset). [Pg.21]

Each vault housing a pressure-limiting, pressure-relief, or pressure-regulating station shall be examined to determine its condition each time the equipment is examined and tested in accordance with para. GR-5.23.3. For any vault which personnel enter, the atmosphere shall be tested for combustible gas. If the atmosphere is hazardous, the cause shall be determined. The vault shall be examined for adequate ventilation. The condition of the vault covers shall be carefully examined for hazards. Unsatisfactory conditions disclosed shall be corrected. No welding maybe done if a combustible gas mixture is present. Maintenance work performed in the vault shall be in accordance with procedures developed per para. GR-5.23.3, with particular consideration given to the monitoring of the atmosphere and safety protection for personnel in the vault. [Pg.79]

A nonchemical factor also influences a sand fly s selection of egg sites She prefers narrow cracks and crevices rather than open surfaces. A gravid sand fly, then, is quite exacting about where she deposits her eggs. She avoids exposed areas and looks for a site that already contains eggs of her own species along with simple organic nutrients. Her concerns seem well placed, for these characteristics promise safety, protection from the elements, and food for newly hatched larvae. [Pg.79]

Tough and chunky material will compost much more quickly if chopped up into smaller pieces. Hire a shredder for occasional use, or if buying one, try out a range—some are much quieter and easier to use than others. It is essential to wear adequate safety protection when using a shredder. Never use it in a confined space be very careful when shredding plants such as laurel and hellebore, which contain toxins. [Pg.39]

Every attempt should be made to incorporate facilities for health and safety protection of plant personnel in the original design. This includes, but is not limited to, protected walkways, platforms, stairs, and work areas. Physical hazards, if unavoidable, must be clearly defined. In such areas, means for egress must be unmistakable. All machinery must be guarded with protective devices4 In all cases, medical services and first-aid must be readily available for all workers. [Pg.59]

Calculations show that radiation risk for Zvezdochka personnel and Severodvinsk population under probable accidents in the process of Victor II dismantling is considerably less than individual risk limit given in Safety Protection Standards (5.Ox 10 and negligible risk (l.Ox 10 ). [Pg.360]

The fourth pass of the PHA is done after construction and before startup begins. This is a physical check of the facilities to be sure the plant has been constructed as per the detailed design. This analysis is usually called the Pre Startup Safety Review (PSSR). This review would also include checking that all control logic and safety protective devices are appropriately calibrated and are working properly. [Pg.69]

It is recognized that saturated vapour concentration may be used as an additional element by some regulatory systems to provide for specific health and safety protection. [Pg.191]
