Research possibilities

Since photoelectrochemistry is not limited to photocurrent measurements, it may at this point be useful to think about some general new research possibilities to be expected from the combination of electrochemical and microwave measurements. Table 1 shows obvious combination possibilities between electrochemical and microwave measurements. 

At present, the microwave electrochemical technique is still in its infancy and only exploits a portion of the experimental research possibilities that are provided by microwave technology. Much experience still has to be gained with the improvement of experimental cells for microwave studies and in the adjustment of the parameters that determine the sensitivity and reliability of microwave measurements. Many research possibilities are still unexplored, especially in the field of transient PMC measurements at semiconductor electrodes and in the application of phase-sensitive microwave conductivity measurements, which may be successfully combined with electrochemical impedance measurements for a more detailed exploration of surface states and representative electrical circuits of semiconductor liquid junctions. 

Effects In Humans. Neither postmortem nor functional cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) studies in humans provide firm evidence for similar, long-term damages or alterations to monoaminergic neurons in chronic stimulant abusers. In part, the lack of demonstrable neurochemical changes may well be due to the obvious preclusion of well-controlled prospective experimentation in humans, as well as to variability in critical variables (e.g., individual sensitivity or pattern of abuse) encountered in clinical research. Possible relationship of the various complications of stimulant abuse including hyperpyrexia, seizure, anoxia, and metabolic exhaustion to neuronal chromatolysis, terminal destruction, and monoamine and enzymatic depletion have not been systematically explored in human autopsy eases. It should be also noted that, under nonperturbed conditions, overt behavioral deficits are rare in...

Recently it has been noted that certain polycyclic aromatic compounds cause marked chronic toxicity, particularly on large grass plants. Killing such grasses is one of the most difficult weed problems under field conditions and its importance should justify further research. Possibly the phenolic constituents of oils should be studied further, in view of the now known toxicity of substituted phenols. Such compounds had been removed by chemical treatment from the oils used in most of the original work of the writers. 

Some 3 billion have been spent on researching possible health effects from dioxin, and the results show that the risks were overstated. Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency s Science Advisory Board concluded that the evidence that dioxin is a cause of human cancer and other diseases is unconvincing.3 Furthermore, studies of workers exposed to the highest levels of dioxin ever experienced—levels that will never be seen again— have failed to produce any conclusive evidence of connections between dioxin and cancer4 and the other health effects.5...

The terpenoids may also be used for the identification of the various taxa [9]. They were initially used extensively as taxonomic markers of gymnosperms, mainly due to their abundance in the leaves of conifers. In contrast, the terpenoids of angiosperms have been poorly researched, possibly due to their irregular distribution in such families e.g. in a survey of 34 species of Plectranthus (Labiatae) [10], 18 were found to have excellent oil profiles, with up to 32 components, but the remainder of the species failed to give any leaf volatiles. Multidisciplinarity is certainly a fashion, but how can such an unstable structure of research possibly work It works as long as money floods in from industrial companies, state agencies, and military sponsors. However, the question remains about the future for chemists in biomimetic programs. 

Use the SWISS-MODEL (9) to build possible protein structures for these genes dock potential broad-spectrum antibiotics candidates to the active sites with AutoDock (10) and use molecular dynamics simulations to research possible binding modes between antibiotics and target proteins (11). 

In February 1991, many prominent contributors to the movement convened at Stanford University to discuss the results of recent research, possible future directions, and other aspects of psychedelic history and culture at an event called the Bridge Conference, the most noteworthy gathering of its kind in recent times. A brief report of the Bridge Conference is included in this Introduction and used as a springboard for discussing prevalent trends and themes in psychedelia.

This dream was not shared by others at the institute. Many of the researchers and employees liked it in California and did not want to move. And some were unhappy as well with Robinson s sometimes authoritarian management style. Instead of making great research possible, the money broke the Pauling institute into warring camps.

It is the opinion of the authors that the chemistry of porphyrin analogues, porphyrin-like systems that are expanded, contracted, or isomeric , as compared to their well-studied tetrapyrrolic parents , now deserves a life of its own. Over the last decades, particularly in the last few years, so much has been accomplished that, on the one hand, the sheer mass of information precludes writing an all-encompassing journal-type review. On the other hand, this same progress has served to make clear that the chemistry of porphyrin analogues is prescient in terms of a number of current applications and future research possibilities. Thus, a synopsis of all that is known appears fully warranted.

To synthesise polymers with unusual properties from existing basic monomers one needs to place the monomer units in ordered arrays rather than at random. Thus polymer architecture control remains an important area of research. Possible structural elements include block, graft and comb copolymers as well as star and dendritic/hyperbranched topographies. Instead of drooping with despair over the thought of a ten-page research paper, think of it as a series of small parts (explanation of the problem, review of current research, possible solutions, or whatever). Then tackle one part at a time and reward yourself when that section s done.
